Poza de la Sal – Living history among mountains and salt
Located in northern Burgos, Poza de la Sal is a small village with a unique character, where history, nature, and tradition come together to offer visitors an authentic and enriching experience.
Famous for its salt diapir, one of the most important in Europe, Poza owes its name to the natural salt flats that, for centuries, were the economic and cultural heart of the area. Today, you can walk among ancient saltworks, visit the Salt Interpretation Center, and discover how salt was extracted since Roman times.
The village is also known as the birthplace of Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente, the famous naturalist and wildlife filmmaker. His legacy lives on in an interpretation center and themed trails that follow his footsteps through the local landscape.
Poza de la Sal invites visitors to stroll through cobblestone streets, admire traditional stone houses, and climb to the Castle of the Rojas, which offers stunning views over the valley and the Castilian plains.
Traditional festivals such as Las Marzas, the Salt Fair, and local celebrations in September bring the village to life with music, customs, and regional cuisine like roast lamb, black pudding, and local honey.
Surrounded by mountains, hiking trails, and scenic viewpoints, Poza is also a paradise for lovers of hiking, birdwatching, photography, or simply those seeking to relax in a rural setting full of charm and authenticity.
🌿 Poza de la Sal isn’t just a destination — it’s a journey into the heart of authentic Castile. Perfect for quiet getaways, cultural tourism, or nature-based experiences.
