This is a unique rural place, set in the heart of the countryside.Everything is just as described.. Definitely an alternative kind of stay that's perfect for taking it easy and appreciating the surrounding nature. The hosts are extremely welcoming and accommodating and more than willing to share their vast knowledge of the area to ensure that you enjoy your stay.. Shared Kitchen is very well equipped and the Salon is very homely. Terrace and garden area is wonderful for outdoor dining.

La Balsa is located at an altitude of 1200 meters in a beautiful hiking area at the foot of the Sierra Nevada in Andalusia, located within walking distance of the villages of Lanteira and Alquife where there is a large public swimming pool, a supermarket and various bars and restaurants. Apartment On the ground floor we have an apartment, consisting of a bedroom with a double bed, an extra bed in the living room, a private bathroom with toilet and shower, an open kitchen and a wood stove. Rooms On the first floor there are 5 rooms, two of which are en-suite, all with their own entrance and terrace. The three large rooms have a sink with hot and cold water, but the showers and toilets for all rooms are on the ground floor and are accessible via an external staircase. The rooms include linen and the use of the large fully equipped shared (living) kitchen on the ground floor. In addition to the normal kitchen equipment, the kitchen has a wood stove, a sitting area and a sound system. We don't have a television. The bedrooms are not heated or cooled, but an electric radiator can be rented for 10 euros per night.
For ten years we went on holiday every year to the Sierra Nevada in Andalusia. Friends of ours had a holiday home there that they rented out. When they announced they were moving in 2005, we fell in love with this area in Andalusia so much that we immediately decided to look for something for ourselves. Not long after that, we found “De Balsa”, an abandoned goat barn that, after six years of (re)building, we have transformed into our own holiday farm in southern Spain. The Balsa is not a luxury villa. Our swimming pool is in the village and we share it with the other locals, but we have the Balsa (water basin 100 meters away) for swimming and of course hot and cold running water, showers, toilets, refrigerators, a freezer and a washing machine and dishwasher. Location La Balsa is located at an altitude of 1200 meters in a beautiful hiking area at the foot of the Sierra Nevada. Here you can still enjoy peace and absolute silence and clean air in a beautiful mountain landscape far away from mass tourism. In the Sierra Nevada we find the highest mountain of the Spanish mainland, the Mulhacén (3482 m). A large part of this mountain range is a protected area: the Parque Nacional de la Sierra Nevada. La Calahorra is famous for its 16th century castle, can be visited on Wednesdays from 10-13 (in summer also between 5 and 8 pm) entrance 3 euros. The morning market of La Calahorra is also worth a visit. The market is on the 5th, 15th and 25th of each month. In and around the little station of La Calahorra, which can be found in the plain between La Calahorra and Charches, Sergio Leone recorded some of his westerns, including “Once upon a time in the West”. The farm is within walking distance of two authentic Spanish villages where there is a large public swimming pool, a supermarket and various bars and restaurants. You can walk, cycle or horseback ride from our farm into the Sierra Nevada and with our walking booklet you can make the most beautiful walks.
