Company info

Valerie and Walter share their lives and dreams since 1993. Both photographers from the Academy of Fine Arts of Antwerp and Ghent, they will each have a different professional path. Valerie quickly turns to shiatsu massage and yoga, follows a professional training and is currently teaching yoga. Walter worked as a photographer and a graphic designer for various international companies allowing him to travel on all the continents. In 2002 their first daughter Tilia is born, followed by a second one in 2004, Alinoé. But it’s in 2006 that their lives really swings round; they decide to change course and settle for two and a half years in Pantelleria, an island south of Sicily. While their eldest is at the age of entering primary school they hit the road again and happen to arrive by turn of events in Cazilhac where La Maison du Pont Vieux will be born.

Property info

La Maison du Pont Vieux is a stunning eighteenth century house right next to a twelfth century stone bridge on the River Herault in Cazilhac. We are 40 minutes from Montpellier with its airport and TGV station. The house is just minutes from the Cévennes – an internationally renowned biosphere reserve. Essential services are a short walk away across the bridge in Ganges, a lively market town. The first floor B&B features large rooms stunningly decorated by your hosts, Valerie and Walter; originally from Belgium, they have backgrounds in art and photography. The décor is an eclectic mix of works of art, souvenirs from their world travels, and curious objects collected at flea markets. In addition to the B&B, a holiday apartment at garden level can accommodate up to seven people; this cosy and comfortable space is ideal for family or friends to spend a holiday together. At the top of the house, a large studio is used for yoga classes and dance and theatre rehearsals. Also on the top floor, two large bright rooms, and a roof terrace, are perfect for meetings and workshops of up to 20 people. A spectacular staircase often features visual art displays, or the occasional concert.

Neighborhood info

The Cévennes is an internationally renowned biosphere reserve; the strongest biological enrichment in Europe took place here over the last twenty years. Many visitors return year-after-year for our pure air cleaned by 3,000 km2 of the Cévennes’ trees and rocks. They walk or mountain bike its spectacular 'causses' (uplands) and deep gorges, and marvel at the historic stone terraces. Active sports people come from far and wide to hang-glide, explore caves; ski; kayak; or go canyoning. Less frantic people come here to walk with donkeys, enjoy everyday life in a typical French market town, shop at the market, or go swimming in the river, or at the seaside, or simply stroll for a few minutes to see the wooden water wheels that bring water to near-by allotment gardens.
