Lincoln was a powerhouse of medieval England and retains amazing monuments from that period. In the Uphill district is the castle built for William the Conqueror. Inside its an original copy of the Magna Carta and its ramparts offer fabulous city views. Across the cobbled square which houses the large Christmas market is huge Lincoln Cathedral whose unusual façade features 2 tall towers, while another at its centre overlooks the Bishop’s Palace.
Connecting the cathedral quarter with the Downhill district is aptly named Steep Hill, a narrow street lined with unique shops and historic buildings including the Jew’s House. Even older are the Roman Newport Arch, Mint Wall and the well on Bailgate.
This road slopes down to meet the River Witham at High Bridge, a stone-arched structure with a half-timbered building atop that is the oldest of its kind in England. Lincoln boat trips depart from the Brayford Pool just west.
Another monument is the 18th-century Ellis Mill, opposite the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. The Collection combines an archaeology museum and art gallery, while The Lawn has a conference centre and the Joseph Banks Conservatory, displaying artefacts he brought back from adventures with Captain Cook.
Booking.com’s Lincoln accommodation covers luxury waterfront hotels, guest houses by the university and cheap apartments near the train station.

Loads of quaint shops, beautiful historic buildings to explore. Some excellent craft beer places , especially Beerheadz. Excellent restaurant choices both chain and independent. Steep Hill lived up to its name if taken slowly its not too bad. The Lion and Snake do a fun music quiz on Thursdays and we were made to feel welcome.

Doddington Hall is worth a visit.
Also the pub next to the canal, The Pye Wype. Good food, nice position by the river and a few boats.

We were there to visit family but Lincoln has a lot to offer visitors: a beautiful cathedral, historical buildings and architecture, lots of shops and dining opportunities and friendly locals. We had a delicious lunch in the courtyard cafe at the Cathedral and I highly recommend it.

Hides it's light under a bushel, much to commend it.
Hides it's light under a bushel, much to commend it. Majestic cathedral once the tallest building in the world and it stands on a hill. Many guided walks available and much history as is the castle incorporating a Victorian prison and law courts.

I visited Lincoln many years ago and was shocked at that in the area our hotel was located it didn’t feel safe. The town centre was very busy as it was a Sat night - lots of hen parties etc
So it just felt a bit rough despite the beautiful cathedral.

Lincoln is a lovely city.
Lincoln is a lovely city. We caught a bus in and it took us to the bus station. Lincoln is very clean, lots of independent shops, a beautiful cathedral and castle. Paloma Faith was performing at the castle while we were there. It’s a pretty place, lots of cafes and bars. Try the Cosy Cafe in the centre. You will be surprised! Next time we’ll go to the cathedral.
This hotel is my favourite place to stay in Lincoln. It has a homely, friendly feel and the staff are a delight. The building and amenities are beautiful and cosy. I personally really like that a delicious croissant breakfast is delivered to the room and that there is milk, orange juice and water in the fridge. I upgraded this time to a deluxe room to get a bath and it was a beautiful bath, as well as the room having a stained glass window with great views.
Lovely, comfortable, clean hotel with very friendly and welcoming staff.
Our room overlooked the Brayford wharf area which is attractive both night and day.
The hotel is situated a short walk from a large number of bars, restaurants and Lincoln City Centre itself. The breakfast options and quality are absolutely top drawer, the choice is formidable. This was our third mini break here this year and it certainly won't be our last.
Everything. Ease of checking in. Very friendly staff. Attention to detail. Food was excellent.
Brilliant location. I would go so far as to say this is the best hotel I have stayed in Lincoln especially within the Cathedral area. Very reasonable price for where it’s located.
Really enjoyable break - clean comfortable and plenty of space. Not cheap but a great base for exploring Lincoln itself and north Lincolnshire more generally. Breakfast was good and there are takeaways to eat in nearby. Would go back any day.
