Within walking distance of the Downbridge Lodge is the beautiful village of Hoxne which is steeped in history, with King Edmund having been martyred by the Danes just a stones throw from the market square. Hoxne is host to a handful of necessities, including The Swan Inn of Hoxne, an excellent pub with restaurant and Hoxne Post Office, shop, cafe and delicatessen stocking a wide range of food, drink and household goods. Just a short drive away there are a number of other eateries and pubs. The Auberge at Yaxley and The Oaksmere at Eye, both just four miles away, come highly recommended. Or if it's brunch you're looking for, head to Wingfield and The Good The Bad And The Hungry cafe. Downbridge Lodge is conveniently located within 45 minutes' drive of the beautiful Suffolk Coast, 50 miles of heritage coastline and a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Visit the Sutton Hoo visitor centre near Woodbridge (45 minute drive), the fascinating site of the world famous seventh century Anglo Saxon burial ship and treasures. The area has numerous historic houses and gardens open to the public including Helmingham Hall, Ickworth House and Framlingham Castle. Historic Norwich, with it's imposing mediaeval fortification Norwich Castle, is located approximately 45 minutes' drive north of Hoxne. Withih equally easy reach are Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds. For those avid golfers, nearby Diss Golf Club welcomes non-members to its 18-hole course. Nearby Stradbroke Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre has a state-of-the-art gym, swimming pool, group fitness classes and three floodlit outdoor clay tennis courts.
