Cranleigh, said to be one of the largest villages in England, is located in the borough of Waverley, between Guildford and Horsham. Nestling in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the village is best known for its access to the Surrey Hills, a flourishing art scene and a quaint High Street full of independently owned restaurants, cafés, and shops. For historians, Cranleigh was home to the whimsical cartoonist Heath Robinson from 1918 to 1929 and a gargoyle in St Nicholas Church, built in 1170, is reputed to be the source of Lewis Carroll's Cheshire Cat in his Alice in Wonderland book.
