Grade2* 15 th century inn steeped in history in the historic town of Harwich. As the building is around 500 years old it is full of character and quirkiness, the floors slope, the walls are beamed and wonky, nothing quite matches yet everything goes perfectly, its a charming yet eccentric place to stay in order to catch the ferry or explore the surrounding countryside. Po0 your head out of our windows and front door look left and see the sea we are surrounded by the sea Dovercourt Bay Bathside Bay and the estuary, less than 1 min walk from Harwich Harbour, Halfpenny Pier where you can see some of the best sunsets around, a perfectly romantic place to sit and share a drink or 2 with your special person. The train station is just a 5 to 10 mins walk away depending on how fast you walk and the ferry terminal is just a couple of mins drive away. This isnt a place of sterile, pristine, stark accommodation like the big chains, this is a higgledy piggledy 500 year old building that has seen it all yet still has plenty of original features, even if they are a bit frayed at the edges , and whilst you may not be promised the immaculate matchy matchy blandness of a major hotel chain, you will be promised a friendly welcome from the small team of friends that run the place, a relaxed atmosphere, and the chance to sleep where 500 years worth of people have slept before. Come and enjoy the character and history of Old Harwich...
Close to Harwich Harbour conservation area. Promenade walks, beach is 2 minutes, surrounded by the sea on 3 sides Dovercourt Bay Bathside Bay and the estuary close to the ferry terminal and train station, set in the old part of Harwich, full of history and quirky old buildings, a sleepy little town with some great award winning resturants and pubs (including The Swan itself) Beautiful views and sunsets of Harwich Harbour, just pop your head out of the door look left and see the sea, walk down and enjoy Harwich Harbour and beautiful view's across the estuary towards Shotley. Take a walking tour with Halfpenny Pier (booking needed) learn the history of Old Harwich
