Ipswich is a sad town these days.

Ipswich is a sad town these days. Many shops have closed charity shops fill the empty ones. I simply do not visit except to see friends and relatives. It has a wonderful history and many historical buildings including Christchurch Mansion and art gallery with priceless paintings by Constable and others

Cold welcome , staff literally had there coats on No open fires on , manager head in he’s phone all night , steam room not working , kids in hot tub no life guards , staff very discriminatory all talking loud in there own language, told upon arrival pool shutting at 5 pm - Notting told this on booking Very dissatisfied with my stay .

my trip to Ipswich was more about using it as a base to...

my trip to Ipswich was more about using it as a base to visit other places and for that Ipswich is well located with frequent trains to most destinations in Suffolk and Essex as well as Cambridge and Norwich. It is a fairly compact town centre. One of the things on my to do list was visit Ipswich Transport Museum. Not easy to get to without own transport but a medium walk from Derby Road Station or more likely a bus ride via the 75 or 77 towards Felixstowe makes it worth a trip out.

There were many excellent eateries and pubs in the town and...

There were many excellent eateries and pubs in the town and as a chef I loved all the ingredients available in the many Asian convenience stores. But there was nothing else to do. I looked at what to do in Ipswich but everything recommended involved walking in parks, travelling out of Ipswich or wasn’t open midweek. I also left one pub because I couldn’t cope with the frankly fascist rhetoric of other customers. The Tower Street Food Hall was excellent.

Before coming for the weekend My friend said “I don’t like Ipswich!” Well Ipswich! How you’ve changed her mind! Two hotels, shopping and a Rend Collective gig at the Corn Echange and she is happy to come back. 😊 The Muthu hotel was beautiful and a nice bit of luxury and the Easy hotel is nice and clean, basic but perfect for a night at a gig. Three wise monkeys was an awesome venue and the food was amazing with a lush vegan option!

We went to Ipswich on a rail and Ale trail which was excellent if like us you want to branch out then Ipswich is an ideal base to start from, Great public transport links as well as very good rail network to get you farther afield.

In Ipswich there isn't really any boutique/luxury hotels, this is one of the best of a mediocre selection of what is available instead. Large room and bathroom, excellent, very helpful friendly front desk staff, more than happy to help carry bags etc as you can't park near the rooms. Very comfy bed, hotel is in a nice green setting. The evening dining in the restaurant was very good, though be aware no air con so was quite stuffy and the tables are close together so not very private and can be noisy.

The room was comfortable and spacious with every need provided for. I appreciated having a kettle and the approach to energy saving. Room cleaning was available if needed. Breakfast was excellent. Drinking water was freely available. Staff were professional. The hotel is located near the train station and an easy walking distance from the waterfront area and the town centre.

Breakfast options were excellent and were nicely prepared and presented. Location was a little out of the way and access to the town centre was more challenging than I expected especially as there are no Ubers available in Ipswich. However the hotel was able to get a taxi fairly quickly.
