Between the Shropshire Meres and the well-known Shropshire to Llangollen canal, in the region known as Shropshire's Lakeland, is the charming market town of Ellesmere, with its stunning mixture of Tudor, Georgian, and Victorian structures. This tranquil town, which was formerly a fortified Anglo-Saxon village, is rich in history and heritage housing a beautiful church with a roof that dates to the 15th century, and Thomas Telford lived there when the canal system was being built in the late 18th century. The town also offers a good selection of stores, bars, and eateries, as well as a selection of activities on and around the nearby meres. Explore Colemere Country Park with its excellent animals and picturesque trails, take a stroll through Cremorne Gardens, go fishing or boating, or take a walk along the canal. A truly beautiful setting with something for everyone all year long.
