The mansion was built in 1876. In the mid-19th century the economy of Pelion, which had flourished in the previous centuries,declines as it struggles to keep up with industrialization and the wealthy inhabitants emigrate. The original house is built during this period. Around 1900, the Athenian influence of neoclassical aesthetic is transferred to country houses where traditional architecture is combined with neoclassical elements. This is how the house takes its current external form. The house's iconic appearance makes it a bone of contention between German occupiers and Greek resistance partisans. Each side in turn makes it their headquarters and the house suffers great damage inside. My family purchases the mansion in the late seventies. The architect specializing in restorations proposes a complete renovation of the interior spaces preserving all the original decorative motifs that have survived. The spaces are completely remodeled and the building acquires the comfort of a modern home.The extensive use of chestnut wood in its interior is the inspiration for its name "Chestnut Mansion". In the following decades the house becomes the main destination for our family vacations and the love for it passes down from generation to generation. The house has three levels. The main entrance is on the second level. Here we have the living room, the dining room and the kitchen as well as two balconies with a view of the central courtyard and the sea. Three bedrooms and one bathroom are on the third level. The two eastern bedrooms overlook the sea and the third, the western one, the village.On the first-courtyard level there is a fourth bedroom and the second bathroom. All levels are connected by an internal wooden staircase.

Kalamaki village is located in eastern Pelion overlooking the Aegean Sea, one hour away from Volos, the capital of Magnesia.This makes it an ideal spot, facilitating travel in all directions. The picturesque mountain villages with the paths that connect them are easily accessible as well as the wonderful beaches of northern and southern Pelion and the coastal settlements around Pagasitikos bay. The house is in the village, on a one acre estate with a lovely garden and a magnificent view of the Aegean. The day can begin by enjoying the sun as it rises from the sea. The beautiful village square shaded by a centuries old plane tree is just a 5' walk away. There are two restaurants where one can taste delicious traditional recipes. The beach is a 3km distance from the village, easily accessible by car or on foot.
