The historical center of this active and thriving city is very beautiful and contains important testimonies. The imposing Mother Church, dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, was built on the remains of other churches from 1736. Not far away, in the charming Piazza Pisanelli, there is the church of San Domenico, annexed the Dominican convent founded in XVth century. The religious building was built between 1600 and 1700 on a previous building devastated by Turkish incursions. The interior has a single nave and houses eight chapels with statues of Dominican saints and a precious wooden choir. Belle also the church of San Michele, dating back to 1624 and built by Cesare Gallone; the deconsecrated church of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli, built in 1685 by Francesco Arborio Gattinara, also known as the "church of the devils", due to a legend that wants its construction by the devil following a bet. On the large Piazza Cappuccini, recently renovated, overlook the convent and the church of the Capuchins, dating back to 1578.
