Gateway Cottages are clean, safe, affordable and environmental friendly accommodation situated on the Gateway Transformation Campus, Chirombo village, Monkey Bay, Southern Malawi. The facility offers 2 cottages: Sunrise Cottage & Lakeview Cottage Each cottage has two bedrooms, shower, toilet, dining area, patio overlooking the Lake. This is great accommodation for environmental, social and church groups who are doing community service in the Southern region. Experience Malawi hospitality in a traditional Malawian village close to Lake Malawi. We are offering lodging as part of our hospitality courses facilitated at Gateway Transformation Campus which are a Christian training facility for the social upliftment of Malawians, adding to the economic infrastructure of tourism in Malawi. Income generated from this hospitality service will add to our training programme for future development.

Francis or Mary Nkhoma will be your hosts, welcoming you and is living on the premises. They will assist the guests with any thing they will need or any question they may ask. Traditional Malawian Breakfast, Dinner and Lunch can be ordered from them at least 3 hours in advance please. Francis is also overseeing the Gateway Campus training facility on the property.

Chirombo village (GPS coordinates: 34°55'29.79E 14°07 13.71S) situated on the main road between Mangochi & MonkeyBay at the cross to CapeMaclear. This is a traditional African village in the warm heart of Africa about 20 kilometer from Cape MacClear World Heritage site and about 5 kilometer from Monkey Bay town and harbour. Snorkeling, boat trips and canoeing can be arranged with local registered guides. According to a German development volunteer working with the Back to School Foundation, the residents of Monkey Bay are not living at the poverty line, but at the existence line. Houses are simple clay cottages, and few households can afford electricity, as the connection costs alone are three times the average monthly wage. Getting around - We suggest that guests must have their own transport as the nearest transport pick up is about 2km from the cottages on the main road M10 going to Monkey Bay which is 10km from Gateway. Local transport is private car taxi's, bicycle taxi or motor bike taxi. Local transport is available to Cape Maclear, Monkey Bay and Mangochi.
