At Natural Selection, conservation is at the heart of everything we do. The loss of any natural habitat, in Africa or other, is a sobering loss for us all, and we want to do something about it. We want to make a difference. To start with, we ensure that 1.5% of your stay in our lodges goes to wildlife conservation. The donations are built into our business model and based on your stay with us. We are wholeheartedly embracing our commitment to Africa's wildlife. In addition to this, we partner with the local communities, governments and conservation organisations in the areas where we operate to help protect (and sometimes even expand) these important conservation areas, and to create long-term benefits. We build camps that best suit the area, working with the environments and habitats that we find there. Camps and lodges shouldn’t be obvious; they should blend perfectly into their surroundings. Lastly, we intend to keep our guests abreast of Africa’s triumphs, losses and continued challenges, with the hope that we will inspire other wildlife-lovers to make a change. While it’s perhaps only a drop in the bucket of what is required, it’s a drop that we hope will make a difference. Let us all make a difference.

Safari House is all about unpretentious, traditional Namibian hospitality. The house sleeps up to six guests in three bedrooms and each is comfortable and spacious with a touch of Natural Selection quirkiness! Each room is air-conditioned, providing the perfect retreat after a hot day in the reserve, and all rooms are ensuite with indoor (and piping hot) showers. Inside, you’ll also find a lovely large sitting room with a dining area and fully-equipped kitchen. Outside, Safari House really comes into its own. For lazy afternoons, the large, wraparound veranda is shady and cool, and the waterhole mere metres away is the perfect entertainment. There’s a swimming pool if you fancy a dip, morning or evening, a braai area (call upon your private chef to whip something up or get out the tongs yourself), and a large, fully-fenced garden.

Landscape Safarihoek is set amongst an epic wilderness of vast savannah dotted with scatterings of mopane woodland and dolomite hills. This beautiful piece of Namibia is Etosha Heights Private Reserve, situated close to Etosha National Park’s southwestern border in northern Namibia. It’s a dry and dusty yet totally captivating land, and the silence and solitude that pervades is poignant. Down here, the wildlife is as magnificent as it is in the national park, and there’s one key difference too. Access to the reserve is carefully restricted (to humans, not animals!), making for exclusive and totally private wildlife experiences, free from tourist crowds and bulging 4x4s. And that’s exactly the kind of experience we like. Wildlife The impressive 60,000 hectares of classic Etosha landscape around Safarihoek Lodge is dominated by vast, flat savannah interspersed with thickets of mopane woodland, riverine forest, and scattered salt pans. The dolomite hills offer cover for elusive mountain zebra, kudu and lion – make sure to have your cameras ready! – and the numerous waterholes attract large numbers of game and their feathered counterparts. The reserve is also home to numerous species of antelope including sable and black-faced impala, as well as giraffe and other plains game. In winter, aardvark and elephant sightings are not infrequent. The Etosha area is rated one of the best places on the continent to view rhino, and Etosha Heights is home to both white and black rhino. A morning spent tracking their footprints through the dust before eventually coming nose-to-horn with one of the endangered beasts is a memory not to be forgotten.
