Hampden is a small town with a relaxed atmosphere located at the top of Penobscot Bay, a popular destination for sailing, kayaking, and other water activities. The Penobscot River is navigable from the Atlantic Ocean to downtown Bangor. There is no hustle and bustle here, just the sound of nature and the friendly banter of neighbors. Residents of Hampden enjoy: ☆ Proximity to Bangor: While Hampden offers a peaceful escape, it is also just a short drive from Bangor, which has all the amenities of a larger city, including shops, restaurants, an international airport, and the Hollywood Casino. ☆ History: Hampden has a rich history dating back to the early 1700s and is home to Hampden Academy, a prestigious institution established in 1803 and one of the top public high schools in Maine. ☆ Cultural Attractions: The Bangor Symphony Orchestra, the Collins Center for the Arts, and the Zillman Art Museum provide a steady menu of cultural events for the region.
