If your family is not one that likes to spend the entire...
If your family is not one that likes to spend the entire vacation on the beach, I would not recommend Gulf Shores as there is little else to do there. The water is gulf water so colder/cloudy vs. clear that you can find in cities like Myrtle Beach or FL beaches. Would recommend a visit to the Sunliner Diner and the Pink Pony Pub while there. If you have time, drive up to Mobile and visit the USS Alabama and the Oakleigh museum. Easy to get around the city and areas around it. Ice cream is a big thing there but be aware that none of the locations have anything different.
