The rooms are really nice, comfortable and clean. Breakfast was really good, and complete. The staff was amazing, they were really friendly and helpful with all our requests. It was my birthday and my girlfriend planned a surprise for me with the hotel and they were supper helpful and cooperative with everything and managed to keep it a secret from me. The spa is also really nice and calm, although we were travelling during low season so it might get busier during the summer months. Overall, it was a great experience and we had a really nice time.

What a place! The city of Marvao is heaven on earth (close to heaven) with 360 panorama view over the Serra de Sao Mamede. The hotel in the historic building, was located on the edge of the village and the cliff so the view from the balcony was amazing!

Wow, this place is such a nice little oasis in Alentejo. Nice garden, pool, and hot tub. You can tell the owners really put a lot of care into fixing the place up. All of the little details are well thought out. The owners Dennis and Anouk are very nice and friendly. The beds are comfortable and the shower has lots of hot water with good pressure. Highly recommend paying for the breakfast. Can't wait to come back

Ines—one of the owners— is warm and welcoming. Our room was splendid—comfortable, lovely, overlooking the beautiful pool. Breakfast was perfect—obrigado Patricia! We liked this beautiful Solar ( a former school where Ines was a schoolgirl—how cool!) so much that we stayed one more night! My friend left for work in Lisboa and I stayed for a third night! One night turned into three because it is so delightful! I have cycled 94,000+km around the world and have stayed at well over 1000+ hotels around the world on every continent except Antarctica—Solar Dos Frades is one of the best! Obrigado Ines! The road getting to the property was a little tight but the location was unbelievable. It is right next to the castle with wonderful views out every window. The yard was also very inviting and private. It was December, so we didn't get to enjoy the yard (and we only stayed one night). There is even a laundry room accessible via the yard. The beds were comfortable including the day-bed adjacent to the living room. It was a lovely place with a lot of character and charm.
