I loved Giverny. I came to see Monet's Garden and House and it was absolutely beautiful. The gardens are at their best in early June. If you are a gardener it is a must. His house and work is just gorgeous. Come and enjoy.
Spent 3.25 hours there. Didn't want to leave! Queues in the gift shop! Take the ' little train' to/from Vernon. Cheaper than the bus plus a bilingual commentary on the history of the town. Shuttle bus stop is a few yards away from Vernon station to the right, which isn't clear on arrival. The little train vehicle however stops right outside. At Giverny, to return to Vernon, cross the main road via the subway outside Le Petit Giverny B&B and Restaurant, and the transport is in the car park. I would go again in another season and stay at the same place. I didn't get to the Impressionist museum this time. Thanks to everyone who posted tips and reviews on this site. They gave me confidence to book and go and I'm so glad I did!
Glorious riot of colour! You could smell the roses!!! Even though very busy, the atmosphere was magic! I recvimmend you get tickets online before your visit!! Queues went on and on and on!! There was immediate entry for those who’d already got tickets!!
We had an enjoyable visit. Slightly disappointing to learn that the present lay-out and content is quite different form that in Monet's day but lovely never-the-less. The walk to the famous lake and bridge takes you through an underpass to get to the other side of the main road so beware that it is quite far ... but worth it!
We took a private tour with a very nice French lady who spoke a little Spanish. She was nice and the whole experience is really unique, it was the second time for me. The first time I came by myself with a tour from Paris. Cant say that the quality of the experience was different, in both cases what matters is how beautiful the gardens are. There are no guides inside the house, you walk from room to room by myself, that is why both the group tour and the private tour where similarly enjoyable for me. I have seen Giverny listed in those "places to see before you die" books and I totally agree! If you can brush up on you Monet history before coming, it will add to the experience.
Although we are huge Monet fans, the house and gardens are better than anticipated. Try to avoid peak season and go either first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon, especially if you want to take pictures that aren't full of tourists.
The historic property was unique and beautiful, the proprietor was lovely, and the location was a peaceful promenade to the Giverny gardens.
Sitting in the garden enjoying the hospitality of the owners at Le Petit Giverny
