Buy pre paid tickets way ahead of your visit if you are in Paris on DIY basis. You cannot see the Louvre in just 1 day so if you love art & history, plan to spend 1-2 days because there is so much to see and appreciate! . If you are on a group tour then that's taken care of.
It is amazing, but there are some very important things to know beforehand: 1. The map they provide is not very good or easy to follow. 2. Bathrooms are rare and often difficult to find. 3. There are MANY stairs, even on one "floor". 4. Apparently, in order to avoid waiting in line for hours, you need to make reservations in advance, and likely days in advance.
We had a tour planned but it was cancelled at the last minute. We were able to get a “skip the line” pass which was very helpful. We purchased the headsets that were useless. The museum is stuffy, warm, and very uncomfortable. Although you receive a map, the Louie is extremely large and difficult to navigate.
Do your homework and decide in advance what you want to see. Download maps of the museum and locate the areas you want to visit. The museum is HUGE and you will be exhausted after 2 hours having seen perhaps 1% of the offerings. It is a beautiful site to see the Louvre's dome when it is lighted at night. For those who are handicapped, the museum will provide you a small wheelchair that can access most areas of the museum. Also, handicapped visitors do not have to wait in line. However, BUY YOUR TICKET IN ADVANCE.
Unfortunately, the Louvre was so crowded that it was not worth the effort. We did pre-book an entry time but this did not help at all. Very unorganized. However, it was worth seeing the outside - the building is beautiful.
We come back from trip with colds and cough,we have slot for 10 am and we been there half hour before,as result they didnt open by 9 and we got in just by 11 am,once tickets are purchased, you cant modify it or cancel it,eventhough,Louvre is amazing.
This hotel is conveniently located across the street from Tuileries Gardens, the Louvre Museum and the Musee D'Orsay. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is good and they make a great capuccino. I have stayed here a few times and will stay with them again when I go back to Paris.

We loved this property! Comfortable stay with all amenities provided by the owner. The apartment was small but perfect for 5 of us. Beds were super comfortable! Very close proximity to Louvre museum, metro and bus stops. Lots of options for food and groceries close by. Value for money in Paris!!
The location is great, near to lots of nice places like Opera, seine river and the Louvre Museum. The room is clean, The staffs are nice.
Go to the Louvre on a Thursday, it's a lot quieter. Don't queue up at the pyramid; use the underground entrance next to the metro. If you're under 26, don't queue for a ticket, just show your passport at the entrance to the exhibitions
Choose hotels and restaurants that aren't "name-branded" chains. Explore side streets. Go to mass instead of just touring Notre Dame or Sacre Coeur. Visit the Louvre on Sunday when it is free to mingle with the locals. Take the metro instead of cabs. It's cheaper and can be part of the adventure if you live in a city without a subway.
Musee d'Orsay had an exhibition of Van Gogh's work which was amazing. I also really enjoyed Musee Rodin which has his sculptures displayed in the gardens which are worth a visit in their own right. The scent of roses was lovely. It is also great to watch the artists at work in the streets around Sacre Coeur Cathedral. The architecture of buildings in Paris is also really attractive and varied. And then there is the Louvre - really too much to take in on one visit.
Musee du Louvre is, in my opinion, the best starting place. Be prepared to spend a whole day there.
The Louvre and Musee D'Orsay for the major collections and The Orangery for Monet's Waterlillies for a taster of Impressionism.
If you pick your time it is not that busy. Definitely get onto a small group guide of the Louvre though
