This classical style, 4-star hotel is located in the Saint Germain area of Paris. Hôtel De Buci offers luxuriously decorated rooms with antique furnishings in the heart of the Latin Quarter. The staff we met were excellent and extremely helpful.
Unfortunately not all sections were open - and the ticket process is a disgrace (for a capital like Paris...) - no confirmation that I bought and payed the ticket online - no answer to my mail: is everything is ok - the lady at the ticket booth had to call someone by phone (like in the olden days... :-) ) to ask if I really had bought the ticket....!!!
Hard to enjoy because it just gets fuller and fuller! I asked a guard when the best time is to come: THURSDAY, right when it opens. If possible, in January and September. I tried the Audioguide, but didn't really get comfortable using it. It had some good information in the introduction, so I suspect that for others it would be very good. However, I had just had a history major as guide in Versailles with GetYourGuide and that was superb! She also does the Louvre, so that would be my first choice for another visit. Also, the security line at Carrousel du Louvre (Metro: Palais Royal (Musée du Louvre) is about 30-40 min. in comparison with 1 1/2-2 at the Pyramid entrance. They had the visitors for Mona Lisa well controlled so each one had a chance for a good picture.
Amazing place with a lot of fantastic sculptures and paintings. The direction map was really hard to understand probably because the internal structure was comprehensive. It was almost impossible to find your direction without asking a staff or sometimes, even if you have asked. But a definite must-visit even for a second time.
We booked a 3 hr guided tour with the Tour Guys and had a wonderful private experience when the other participants did not show up. Avi was so knowledgeable and catered to our desires. He had a great sense of humor and we really learned a lot about Renaissance art and sculpture. Discovered through him why the pyramid is an apt symbol of the museum.
Mona Lisa is not worth seeing for the Disneyland line that takes over an hour, several flights of stairs and the one minute they allow you 15 feet in front to view it -- IF you can see over the people pushing you down to take their selfies with her. You are better off appreciating it from an art history book.
We only spent a couple of hours here right before closing so it wasn't as crowded. We saw the Mona Lisa and a few other great things. It was long enough for our family. The outside pyramid and fountains were beautiful.
The rooms are newly remodeled and very nice. The location was terrific. Just a few minutes walk to Place de Concorde, the Louvre museum, the D'Orsay museum, the Seine river, views of the Eiffel Tower, ... I could go on and on. The tree lined neighborhood is classic Paris. Busy with foot traffic, bicycles, scooters, cars and buses. You get the flavor of the pace of Paris watching them all go by. Lots of local brasseries, restaurants, markets and shops along the street outside.
The location is perfect! Right in front of the metro station (one stop from Paris North). Also located a walking distance to Louvre Museum (about 15 minutes walking)! The room was extremely comfortable and clean. The employees are super friendly and helpful. We had a small issue with the room and it was fixed right away! Excellent breakfast! When I go back to Paris I will definitely stay there!
Good location, free mini bar and open bar in the afternoon and night. The staff is really nice and caring... and very available. The hotel is really well situated in Paris, in a quite street and nearby all japanese restaurant. A few minutes walk to the Louvre museum or Vendome square. Same to the Garnier Opera.
2nd arr., Paris
Stunning apartment located close to Louvre Museum. The neighbourhood is fabulous with bakeries, grocery stores, supermarkets, many restaurants, very Parisian. We highly recommend it. The host (Adrian) was very helpful and had fantastic advice.
- Rooms are cozy and warm (winter time). - Bathroom clean with toiletries. - Lobby has 24 hour staffs, keys are returned to the front desk when guests leave rooms. - Location is great, we could walk to Louvre museum within 15min.
Excellent location, very close to the Louvre museum, in a neighbourhood with many restaurants and excellent ambiance. In the hotel, everything was clean and the personnel very nice and helpful.
Go to the Louvre on a Thursday, it's a lot quieter. Don't queue up at the pyramid; use the underground entrance next to the metro. If you're under 26, don't queue for a ticket, just show your passport at the entrance to the exhibitions
Choose hotels and restaurants that aren't "name-branded" chains. Explore side streets. Go to mass instead of just touring Notre Dame or Sacre Coeur. Visit the Louvre on Sunday when it is free to mingle with the locals. Take the metro instead of cabs. It's cheaper and can be part of the adventure if you live in a city without a subway.
Musee d'Orsay had an exhibition of Van Gogh's work which was amazing. I also really enjoyed Musee Rodin which has his sculptures displayed in the gardens which are worth a visit in their own right. The scent of roses was lovely. It is also great to watch the artists at work in the streets around Sacre Coeur Cathedral. The architecture of buildings in Paris is also really attractive and varied. And then there is the Louvre - really too much to take in on one visit.
Musee du Louvre is, in my opinion, the best starting place. Be prepared to spend a whole day there.
The Louvre and Musee D'Orsay for the major collections and The Orangery for Monet's Waterlillies for a taster of Impressionism.
If you pick your time it is not that busy. Definitely get onto a small group guide of the Louvre though
