The palace is almost constantly very, very crowded.Try to go on your own rather than with a group. There are so many groups that your visit will be very rushed and you'll likely not get to see/hear much. The art is astounding, as is the gold stairway ceiling.
RESPECT!! If you go there. Please respect this wonderful place. Do not behave as the other stupid tourist who think Venice is an attraction/theme park and not one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
By a five euro book on St Mark's Square - it outlines the special features/monuments/sculptures of the various buildings around the square. You will then see things you didn't even realise were there ie. the different arrangement of windows on the side of The Ducal Palace facing the square and the description of the various sculptures on top of the arched columns. Take the time to study the details of the architecture of this magnificent building, look for all the hidden treasures on its facade.
One of the most impressing visits in my life... and I am Italian and I have visited all the famous Italian famous places and a huge amount of the great, but less known ones. Spare half a day and take this time machine into history and power! As a bonus you get to walk on the famous "Ponte dei Sospiri" from the inside and snap a pic to the gorgeous view outside.
The location was good. Its a few hundred metres away from the Ospedale water taxi stop. The area the hotel is located is quiet and relatively peaceful for Venice. Its close to the major sights like the Rialto bridge, Piazza San Marco, Doge’s Palace etc The bathroom was spacious. the shower was of a good size. The manager and the lady that work there are amazing people. They are helpful, friendly and go out of their way to assist. I cannot commend them enough.

There are countless, mind bogglingly exquisite examples of Renaissance art, architecture and sculpture. Scuola Grande di S. Rocco holds boasts exquisite wood carvings & paintings, the Palazzo Ducale almost too much to take in. Tintoretto & Titian is everywhere. The Frari offers amazing examples. Too much that is beautiful than can be described in a paragraph.
Just step off the main touristic route, and you will be able to enjoy old Venice streets without crowds. If queues to the Palazzo Ducale or San Marco Cathedral look too scary to you, visit the Correr museum at San Marco square, just next door to the Palazzo, to learn more about the history and social life of the Venitian republic in a more quiet atmosphere.
