Basilica Cistern
This cavernous space is the largest remaining Byzantine cistern in Istanbul. Constructed in the 6th century, it originally provided water filtration for the Great Palace of Constantinople, and continued to supply the Topkapi Palace from 1453 until the modern day. Opened to the public in 1987, you can now explore its atmospheric walkways and marvel at the intricacy of its decorative, water-worn columns.

Atmospheric.
Atmospheric. Not too busy when we visited, but you won't be alone. Admission fee but worth it. Exit is obvious, entrance around the corner. If there's a queue, say you want to pay with card and you might beat it, as we did.

The Basilica Cistern in Istanbul is indeed a remarkable historical site, and it has been used for cultural and artistic events like Night Shift (cultural performances, concerts, art exhibitions or other creative activities). I recommend checking the official website of the Basilica Cistern

An amazing example of how the re-use of old structure has aa long, long history. If you have small children, remember that CO2 is heavier than air, and they might need to be carried for some of the way if they feel a little dizzy.

its a must visit place as while looking at it one wonders the engineering and architect of that time and the kind of efforts which were made to create a nearly hidden, massive cistern. the ticket price of of 350 lira is a bit steep but since Sultanamet ( Blue Mosque) and Hagia Sofia( now when its a mosque) have no tickets, its OK. all are close by and could be visited in all in 2-3 hrs..

It is nothing quite as bright as seen in pictures.
It is nothing quite as bright as seen in pictures. It would have been of great significance in the life of Istanbul's then population that used its waters and of course the engineering skills that went into building it, but I feel there are a lot of other things one can spend time marvelling at in Istanbul rather than spend extra to see the basilica cistern. It wasn't even covered under the Turkey Museum Pass that we had, which gave access to virtually every place we wanted to go all over the country.

Location, location, location — Agras Hotel in Fatih is right where the action and attractions are, a walking distance away from the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Basilica Cistern, the Archeological Museum, Gulhane Park, the Bazaars, and meeting point for the Bosphorus Strait cruises. Breakfast served in the Hotel is just lovely and scrumptious. Hotel staff were very courteous and helpful.
Fragments Hotel is 15 minute walk from Taksim Square (metro, buses to airports) and 10 minutes walk from Tophane Tram station (access to Aya Sophia, Sultan Ahmet mosque, Basilica Cistern, Covered bazzar, Topkapi palace, and Dolmabahce Palace) . So it has good location with easy access to tourist attractions. The hotel is very neat, it has friendly and helpful staff, and roof restaurant has a very nice view to Golden Horn. It has a decent breakfast. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby.
The B&B is in the hearth of Sultanahmed very close to the Blue Mosque, to Agya Sophia and to the Basilica Cistern. Around the hotel you can taste the real ottoman daily life, with a lot of small shop, restaurant and coffee.
Getting lost in its streets is like a leap in space and time.
The building is very nice and cared for, it's in a nice location near to the main attraction in Istanbul Sultanahmet, Hagia Sophia and Topkapi basilica cistern and grand bazaar the staff cleans regularly and is always ready to accomodate any request
Hotel location is excellent with easy access to most local attractions like Blue mosque, Hagia Sofia, Topkapi, Basilica cistern etc.
Hotel is clean equipped with all facilities. Specially, the reception staff (Emre & Qadri) are professional, English proficient and very helpful.
Amazing terrace at the roof, where you can have a delicious breakfast and enjoy the view of the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. Staff is very polite and nice. The location is perfect if you’re planning to visit the main sightseeings (Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern, Sultanahmet Mosque, Topkapi Palace). The region is super touristic though, so be ready for noisy crowds.
Friendly staff, welcomed us like we were family. We met the owner and his son (Jem) who were so lovely. They were very accommodating and willing to help. The breakfast was phenomenal and room was in a prime location, 5 min walking distance to Haga Sophia, Basilica Cistern etc and close to the tram that takes you to Eminounu. Restaurants and shops right outside yet the rooms sound proofed well so no late night noise.
The hotel is clean and modern with comfy beds and a clean room. good choice at breakfast and reception were very helpful. The location is within a few mins walk to Hagia Sofia, Blue mosque and Basilica Cistern.
LOCATION is very near 10 mins to Sultanahmet Square where Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern. Alot of shops along the way, supermarket, restaurants nearby all within walking 3-5 mins. Staff Sunat ,Saeid, Serkan and Mohammed are very helpful.
We had a family suite and the facilities were as mentioned on the website and the place was very clean and organized. The staff were super kind and friendly. Everything was great and comfortable. Also, the location is suitable for easily accessing many landmarks, such as Topkapi, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, and also Grand Bazaar. In the neighbourhood around there, there are lots of great cafes and restaurants and is a very good area for walking and having meals.
