We really enjoyed our stay at Lucmabamba Lodge. It is 50m from the Salkantay trail on the left-hand side, on a little bushy path that is easy to miss, Julio and Alicia were very friendly and happy to show us their coffee plantation and garden. Although our Spanish is poor, they were excellent at explaining everything slowly, or they would have their daughter translate to English, or even use a translation app. In the evening, they set out mattresses in the garden so we could watch the stars. We had a delicious and filling dinner and breakfast with fresh ingredients from their own garden, and, of course, amazing freshly roasted coffee.

Staying with Roger and his family was a highlight of our time in Peru! The Hacienda was so peaceful and even though we don't speak Spanish and had a little harder time communicating with the family, we could still feel the love and warmth from them. I also had the best 2 nights of sleep there out of our entire 2 weeks in Peru because of the environment. Roger was very helpful with arranging a car to take us from Cusco to the house and although it took longer than the train, it ended up being approx. the same price as the train plus we got to make some stops along the way and see the beautiful countryside. Joel was the driver and he was very safe. I was hesitant to stay here because it was farther from our visit to Macchu Picchu and I was concerned about the logistics of getting there. BUT Roger was extremely helpful in facilitating all of that for us and made it easy. I initially was being stubborn and tried to arrange everything myself...if you're in that boat, do yourself a favor and just go with him booking the car for you from Cusco to the Hacienda. He went above and beyond helping me book tickets for the train and arranging transportation from Cusco. It was well worth it and he did way more than most would help with. COFFEE!! The food and coffee was so incredibly fresh and having his dad Ramon teach us how to make it early in the morning was one of my favorite experiences in Peru. Well worth the extra distance it was from Aguas Calientes and a memorable experience. Highly recommend staying here!
