It used to be an elementary school until they closed it a few years ago. It’s all still intact, the blackboards, the gym, etc. A few minutes walk from the main Magome street. The bunk beds were comfortable. The staff was pleasant and friendly. Looking back, I wish I stayed longer than one night.

Very big room for Japan, 30m2, there was a kitchen and washing/drying machine. Practically at the bus/railway station, but we did not hear any noise from trains.

Effective October 1, 2025, a lodging tax will be introduced by ordinance of Takayama City. In addition to the room charge, 100 yen per person per day will be charged. The people working there are both friendly, helpful and caring, it felt like they had a genuine intrest in their guests. The common areas are clean and cosy with a relaxed vibe, and when I was there the guests interacted with each other so you could get to know new people if you wanted to. The place was also in walking distance to both the bus station, old part of town and to a shopping mall with a proper supermarket. If you dont want to walk, there is a 7/11 right next door, or there is the possibility to buy food and coffee at the place. If I come back to Takayama I would choose to stay here again

Ryokan Asunaro: A Traditional Japanese Inn in Takayama. Nestled just a 6-minute walk from Takayama Station and the Nohi Bus Center, Ryokan Asunaro offers an authentic Japanese inn experience. This Ryokan is exceptional. So clean and well appointed. The family are so friendly and helpful. The room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. We loved our dinner in the dining room that we booked in advance. We were very fortunate to be visiting at Christmas time and the Christmas dinner had so much thought and time put into it, making it a very memorable meal and stay for our family.

ריוקן אויאדו קוטו נו יומה (Oyado Koto No Yume) שוכן במרחק של שתי דקות הליכה בלבד מתחנת טאקאיאמה (Takayama) וכולל חדרים בסגנון יפני עם נגיעות ססגוניות, מרחצאות מעיינות חמים, מסעדה המגישה ארוחת בוקר... Amazing location, for starters! Only 2 blocks from the bus/train station, and only about a 10 minutes' walk to the market and historic sector. Many delicious restaurants and convenience stores within a 2-block radius. Upon arriving, we enjoyed observing the ryokan traditions; it made the stay very unique. It made us feel so welcome that the check-in process was done seated in an area of the lounge where we were served hot tea as Thant guided us through everything we would need to know for our stay. He helped us reserve time in the private onsen and also a Japanese-style breakfast (was not included in our lodging plan). We paid for the private onsen and breakfast at check-out. Thant then led us up to our spacious room, where all our luggage was already waiting for us. The beds were incredibly comfortable with a foam topper that we just melted into. Nice, warm shower with good water pressure. The building in general seems to get quite cold, but the heater in our room worked very well, and our room had a kotatsu table that was sooo nice and warm. Also, we were traveling for our honeymoon and were very touched by the thoughtful details that the staff laid out for us in our room.

The resort is amazing, you can truly relax and experience the onsen culture away from crowds and in a very original way. Rooms are very nice and clean and the private onsen are the best added value if you want to have privacy and relax in the onsen.
