The hotel also provides free hot springs and a cosy public space for rest. And I loved the breakfast so much! Food was delicious, of course. As the restaurant has a great view, you may enjoy the sunrise if the weather's good.

Situated along Tanohara River and surrounded by tranquil nature in Kurokawa Onsen hot spring area, Oku no Yu Ryokan offers charming Japanese-style accommodation and various hot spring baths. The onsens were amazing and the best in the town. Food exceeded my expectations conpletely and were worth the price we paid per night alone.

Located in the heart of the city, Hotel Nikko Kumamoto features accommodations with free wired internet access and views of Kumamoto Castle. Amazing hotel, close to the castle. Staff were absolutely attentive. The room was huge and with castle views. Very convenient if you are taking the coach line to Yufuin or Kurokawa, as the bus station is in front of the hotel.

We chose Kikuchi instead of Kumamoto, to get away from the city before our trip to Mt Aso. We got a lovely country house, but the main benefit was the lovely couple who hosted us. Super friendly and helpful. I enjoyed breakfast, my wife skipped hers, so the host packed it as a bento box for our lunch. Vegetables from the garden. A guided visit to the forest to see fireflies. Tastes of local food and drink. It was if we were lodging with my favourite aunt and uncle.

She even made sure that the accommodation was heated up before we arrived. I can't recommend this place and Rie enough.
