The Empress has been renovated since we last stayed in 2010 - the facelift has been done with grace and taste, and with respect for the history of this grand old lady whilst bringing the hotel into the modern era. The corridors to the rooms are almost never ending, with interesting historical photographs, furniture and artefacts tastefully displayed to add to the sense of the past merging with the present. The location of The Empress is central and picturesque, and at the time we visited, the hotel was prettily decorated for the festive season. Our room was spacious and comfortable and included thoughtful touches such as a cork yoga mat and bathrobes / slippers. We enjoyed High Tea which is a celebrated ritual associated with this institution and even the non-tea drinkers developed a new appreciation for tea!

We loved staying at this B&B! The hosts were attentive and friendly. Our accommodation was wonderfully set up and very clean and comfortable. The hot tub was excellent and we also had fun playing the piano. A truly fantastic experience overall and highly recommended!
