"Highlight of our trip was boat from Lucerne to Vitznau and cog railway up mount Rigi. Views were spectacular. I also recommend Stanserhorn cable car with great views at the summit, and a fun day trip to ride on the world's steepest funicular railway Stoosbahn. Lucerne is lovely with views of mountains in the distance. It is very enjoyable to walk along the river and cross the old wooden covered bridges, go to see the Lion monument, Bourbaki Panorama and the pretty buildings in the old town."

We stayed for two nights and got to climbed the peaks and see alps in the distance which was breathtaking! The half board option is really ideal for us and helped us to secure nice table and food choice. They also provide us free cable or cogwheels tickets for the 2nd day that allowed us to decent to Kriens and Lucerne. We would highly recommended this place to stay for at least two nights if you love mountains and nature. The staffs are thoughtful and friendly.

We had a very pleasant stay at Hotel Alexander in Weggis and would definitely recommend it. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our visit, which we especially appreciated since we don’t speak the local language. They made everything easy and welcoming for us. Our room was much larger than we expected, which was a lovely surprise, and the view was absolutely incredible. There was a crane in sight, but honestly, it became quite interesting to watch and didn’t take away from the beauty of the surroundings. The location is fantastic — we could easily walk to the boat station/pier, making it very convenient to explore the area. It was also a great base for driving to other places, including Zurich. The breakfast each morning was delicious with a great selection, and we also had dinner at the restaurant one evening where the food was absolutely divine. Overall, a wonderful experience with excellent service, beautiful surroundings, amazing food, and a perfect location. We would happily stay here again.

Simply WOW! 💖 Fantastic place and absolutely amazing staff! You guys are magicians at creating an atmosphere of hospitality and comfort! Everything was simply perfect: delicious, clean, friendly, beautiful, but what surprised me most was that the managers really listened to people's comments here! Can you imagine, it turns out there are managers in this world who really improve the service after complaints from guests!? 😁 And absolutely everything I read here about the hotel before checking in, absolutely all the wishes of previous guests, were met and fulfilled. The hotel is lovely and in an amazing location. The lake boats stop is just next to the hotel and the train up to Mount Rigi is less than a minutes walk away. The staff were very helpful both in the hotel and at the tourist office next to the train stop. The views over the lake are stunning. The hotel provide a visitor pass for your stay, which includes free transport around Lake Lucene.

We stayed here in early January in the suite with a gorgeous view to the lake. Beau Rivage is a classic hotel with notes of nostalgia. My wife and I really enjoyed its atmosphere. The staff were kind and very attentive. The breakfast was exquisite with a great selection of fresh local pastries and cheese.

Small, cozy, it looks like the owners live in it themselves. I love and respect this very much. We were getting back from Lucerne late, the children were already asleep, and it was a kilometer away from the bus stop. I called them, they picked us up in a car from the stop. It was very helpful.

What a stunningly beautiful city!

What a stunningly beautiful city! The covered bridges, one of them bedecked with flowers, both decorated with 17th century paintings, were unlike anything we'd seen before, and the large 'old town' and also the 'small' one were full of beautiful buildings, many of them covered with frescoes. It is also an easy city to tour on foot, to see the central sights - we didn't stay long enough to go to any outlying locations, but the lake looked like a beautiful place for a cruise and the Musegg wall looked like an interesting excursion. The lakefront is very animated at night and there are lots of inviting shops and restaurants.

Weggis is a great base for exploring Lake Lucerne and the surrounding area. The regular ship services that call at Weggis can very easily take you to the wonderful city of Lucerne in one direction and other places situated lakeside in the other direction.

This was our first trip to Lucerne and our first trip to Switzerland. We spent a half day in Zurich and 2 and a half days in Lucerne prior to embarking on a Viking cruise that departed from Basel. We arrived on train from Zurich. The friendly lady at the Info desk at Lucerne's train and bus hub told guest staying in local hotels are given a guest-pass to ride buses for free during our stay. Your hotel should provide you via email the guest pass that is good for check in day through the day of departure. Thank you city of Lucerne! Between busses and the ease of waling, getting around town was easy. The best meal we had was lunch at the Opus cafe, overlooking the Reuss river. The atmosphere was magical and the lunch special was fresh and oh so delicious. The included salad bar was stocked with salads, cheeses and seafood apéritifs. Our favorite non-food related activity was renting a very reasonably priced ($100 CHF for 1.5 hours) personal motorboat and boating on Lake Lucerne. The water is crystal clear and so blue. It was easy and amazing. The photos we captured are treasures in our Trip to Europe album. Highly recommended for any summer trip to Lucerne! If you are planning a trip to Switzerland, plan a full day or two in Lucerne. You will not regret it.

Beautiful location on the lace with option to enjoy a...

Beautiful location on the lace with option to enjoy a mountain hike or by public transportation. Good for people that love relax, wellness or sport. Fantastic panoramic views and short trips in Central Switzerland. Can recommend this as a short holiday stay.

If you are umming and ahhing about going, just go. I've seen a review saying it was crowded, but October 2023 it was not, it was very quiet so if you want a bustling vibe it's not for you! I think in summer it may be more of a popular spot.

Lucerne is a major tourist hub and trains are easily accessed therefrom. It is also easily accessed from ZRH via train. Advise Swiss Travel Pass for rail, museum and attractions access. Lucerne is HOT in the summer. 80's-90's. Be sure to get a hotel with air conditioning. My advice would be to stay away from the river front and the old bridge. It is just too busy. Plenty of nice hotels just a few blocks away from the lakefront would give more peace and quiet but still easy access to dining and nightlife as well as the train station. Be sure and make the trip up to the Gutsch for a tremendous dining experience and view.

We used Weggis as a base to travel to the attractions each...

We used Weggis as a base to travel to the attractions each day. It served us well for transport and we loved the ferry trips on the lake. Our Hotel Beau Rivage was lovely. Room a great size with comfortable bed, storage space, and relaxation area. Good sized balcony to enjoy the view from. We ate both in the hotel restaurant and a local italian restaurant, which was wonderful.
