You can buy your tickets at the train station along with the train ticket to get there (short ride) Visit the oldest bridge & the beautiful old paintings above. We only had a short stay so tried to cover the main tourist...
We only had a short stay so tried to cover the main tourist attractions in a day. Unfortunately it rained most of the day but we were able to see the old town on the tourist train which was very good. We walked to the lion monument which was impressive. An afternoon cruise on the lake was wonderful with spectacular views of the city, lake and imposing mountain peaks that surround it. Even in autumn there was still some snow on the top peaks.

Beautiful and charming! Stepping out from the train station and seeing the river with its bridge and tower was like being in a totally different century. Easy walk to the Garden Museum located by the Lion sculptured in the rock. It was fun and educational. The boat ride in Lake Lucerne was amazing coming back from the Gotthard Panorama Express in our return from Lugano. The boat ride is part of the the trip, but you can buy passes just for the ride. From fine dining to chain restaurants is all there. The main train station office is in the upper floor of the train station. I had a great time there.

Luzern is very attractive, most sights within walking distance. A really interesting art gallery (Rosengart Sammlung) and we were lucky to get tickets for a concert for the Luzern Festival. The lake is picturesque and the mountains in the distance had fresh snow. On the downside - it was full of tourists! The restaurants were nothing special - catering for mass tourism. Like the rest of Switzerland everything was expensive so budget accordingly.Elaine - Scored 1010

The hotel is a bit tired, but had free parking. Also free parking across the road and regular buses into town. Because the hotel has a restaurant, which seemed to be used by locals (a good sign), we were able to check-in late (around 9:30). Staff member was great. The only problem is the beautiful church next door.. the bells chime until 11pm and start again at 7am. Fine for us, but welcome to Switzerland!!
