"Lloret de Mar still is one of the great places to stay at the Costa Brava. Great beach, a rich choice of restaurants and of course the sizzling nightlife. Everything you need within walking distance. And for the Dutch: you should not miss the Dutch snackbar De Koe & Bakker Bert. Recommended for patat or a frikandel anytime."

"We have visted Roses in our motor cruiser when travelling along the coast from France down to Barcelona and we love it. Of course there are many ports along the route who are also very welcoming but Roses has a special place in our hearts as we had our honeymoon here. For us it was a chance to visit as land based tourists. To get the very best of your holiday we recommend that you do your homework in advance so that your holiday coincides with local events like the summer solstice which add vibrant colour to your holiday and you can make some lovely memories to cherish forever."

Tossa de Mar

Old Town, Castles & Royal Heritage, Sandy Beach
516 hotels
One of 4,992 reviews:
"Nice old town, big beach (Platja Gran), not high rise, good cafes and restaurants. Visited Lloret de Mar and Blanes but much preferred Tossa as the others were very built up and probably suit a younger crowd. Also tried the beaches further north in Begur (Sa Tuna and Sa Riera), and would recommend Sa Riera - it's big and has a few restaurants on the beach (but again parking was difficult). Recommend a car as beaches along the coast are amazing but some are dificult to get to. You need to get there early to find parking. The last 15K of road between Girona and Tossa is very windy (switchbacks and hairpins) and you need a decent car. We opted for the smallest (not familiar with the roads) and struggled with some of the hills. Lots of local cyclists on the roads so be careful on the bends. Enjoyed the restaurant at L'Hostalet, food and service was excellent. Also, enjoyed L'Adjustada for super local cuisine in a nice setting. Great selection of beaches in Tossa, the main beach is great but the smaller Menuda Mar at the far end of the town is perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Our favourite was Santa Cristina (about 20mins away) with a great restaurant (Albamar) but you need to reserve when you get there. Most of the beaches we tried have a shelf at the front of the beach so not very suitable for nervous swimmers as you are very quickly out of your depth. Water was crystal clear in most places and the water temperature was prefect. To experience this the best thing is to rent a kayak (we paid €22 for 1 hour) from Menuda Mar and kayak around the head."

"If you're traveling solo, Faro is a fantastic destination! I stayed at Albergue Faro, a women-only hostel, and explored everything on my own. I got around easily by bus when needed, and all the nearby beaches were within about a 15-minute walk from the hostel. The city is very walkable, safe, and full of amazing beaches. There are also countless bars and restaurants, so there's always somewhere to relax, enjoy great food, and soak up the atmosphere. I highly recommend Faro for anyone planning a solo trip!"

"I visited all the museums in Girona and my favourite had to be the Jewish Museum. It was well organized despite Covid-19 restrictions and had so much to see and listen to. Its location in the Jewish quarters was very awe-inspiring and there was a straight pathway leading to the famous Cathedral. There are many delicious ice parlors to cool you down during the hot day and many gardens where you can rest and enjoy the beautiful architecture. As a solo traveller (without a tour guide), I simply planned my route through the old town the night before on Google maps highlighting the important museums, bridges and tourist sites and it worked out excellently. Combined a total of 8 hours was spent exploring the old town. Full day's activity! I recommend bringing good walking shoes as there are many steps, climbs, etc. English is not so commonly understood or spoken in many places and in taxis as compared to in Barcelona so expect to mime a lot of things."

If you have the time this is a cool place and quite different to the town itself. We stayed at the museum apartments. Which are excellent. Hope this helps others."

"Unspoiled by mass tourism Cadaques is so beautiful and charming. A maze of steep alleyways lined with beautiful white houses, covered in pink laurels. Gorgeous crystal clear waters are full of fish and great for snorkeling. Cadaques is built on hills, some of which are very steep so it's not easy for anyone with mobility issues. Visit Dali's house and also a couple of excellent Dali museums well worth a visit. We went scuba diving with DIVING PORTLLIGAT CADAQUÉS who are based at Carpe Diem hotel. Cannot recommend them enough."

"I loved the beaches and the old town. There is a useful map I got from the tourist office showing historic walks round the town and surrounding area. When not on the beach, I followed these to see the sights in the old town, the Marimurtra botanic gardens on the headland, the little beach beyond, and up the hill to the Castell de Sant Joan with spectacular views up and down the coast. There are also great markets: craft, produce, fish and clothing. As the beach is across the road from the town, you can take a dip during your sightseeing. I will be back."

As for the time to this hotel, it was really a surprise for us to discover the clearness and the warm welcoming of the staff. We really enjoy our stay there and could recommend it for other risk takers. The nice special side is the staff and the food (breakfast has many choices as well as the diner). The hotel is quite also well located nearby all the facilities (bus station, stores, restaurants, discos, entertainments places ) and the beach is not far as well….

This is a historic hotel, in a beautiful natural setting. The rooms are simple but nostalgic, and they are comfortable enough for a couple of days you'll be spending in the mountains. We had 4 nights here. Hotel room with seaview was superb - double width balcony Some confusion on check on - apparently despite booking my wife an I in as guests in a double room they had only one of us booked as half board so had to pay extra at check in. Still a bit confused about that Parking is challenging as they have insufficient spaces for the number of rooms but the car park is beutifully landscaped as gardens and the view of the coast on the back of the hotel is wonderful. All in all a superb clifftop hotel and one we would very much like to return to one day.

First visited Estartit in 1967 when it was little more than a fishing villiage with aspirations to appeal to early tourists. Decided to return to see how it has grown and to visit some of the old bays up and down the coast that we used to visit as a family (Sa Tuna, Aiguablava, Tamariu, Llafranc, Callela de Palafrugell). It has grown beyond all recognition but the beach is still great & the Main Street in the town was a great place to eat/stroll during the evening. Glad I went out of season as it would be packed mid summer.
