Fantastic location in walking distance to old town and cable car. Our room was very quiet being on the top floor with a lovely view to the mountains. Our host Thomas was easy going, helpful and organised a taxi driver for a longer day trip we took. We were most grateful for his assistance. Great breakfast and selection of cereals, pastries, tea, coffee etc.

Value for money in this hotel is absolute amazing. For 32 eur per person and night a small, but clean room, small window, but can be opened wide, calm in the night, super friendly hotelier who speaks fluently German (and Schwäbisch ;-)). But the super best thing is the breakfast for 5 eur per person (!). What I expected: Mediocre coffee from a public service machine and a few biscuits. What I got: 2 small fresh butter and one choco croissant, 2 big pieces good baguette, jam, camenbert, joghurt, müsli with good milk, good cooled orange jiuce and 2 cups of good coffee. No idea how they do that, but take your chance!

Very close to the city center, receptionists are very kind. Their garage is very close and comfortable if you drive there by car. I suggest the massage with Cloe if you want enhance your stay. Also the swimming pool is quite hot and perfect for a break of relax.

The city seemed just abandoned, although the location is very nice with the Alps on the backdrop, city center feels as if it is in a declining mode. Restaurants and retail shops look as if they are in a different country not in France. We are not coming back anytime soon

We actually ended up staying here due to an issue with an...

We actually ended up staying here due to an issue with an Airbnb in another city. But it was easy to book, the people were friendly, and the surrounding area to walk around was beautiful. Looked like there was a lot more to explore had we stayed longer.

Calm and quiet village next to Grenoble with a good bus connection to the city center and main station. Offers City bikes and scooters. Bike lines are available, Hiking to the nearest mountains is possible directly from the village without necessary to use any public transport

Voreppe is located at the foot of the Vercor and Chartreuse mountain ranges, within 20 minutes from Grenoble. If you like mountains, green scenery, snow capped mountains, this is a place for you. You are within reasonable distances from small villages, the large Grenoble metropolis, 1 h from the 2nd largest city in France (Lyon) and dozens of ski resort ( for winter or summer activities).

A hidden gem. A small and still original alpine village.

A hidden gem. A small and still original alpine village. The hype of other tourist spots is far away. Still, the village has a few Restaurants to choose and his own cheese manufactory. Ideal for a break away. Well, there is no train but at least public bus connection. (I also have to admit that we travelled by car 😬.)

Connection by public transport to Grenoble is horrible (1 h+ when a car ride takes 20 min), and taxis are VERY expensive (I paid > 70€ for a taxi from Crolles to Grenoble train station on a Sunday). Either come with your own car or don't come at all. The nature and landscape is beautiful though.

We really enjoyed Grenoble.

We really enjoyed Grenoble. It is a nice friendly city with good transport. We visited the art gallery and the cable car. The scenery is stunning. We were only there two days but with more time would have ventured out of the city into the countryside. We would recommend the Belle Idée restaurant. After Grenoble we went to Aix. The first part of our journey was on a beautiful little train from Grenoble towards Gap. This went through the Alps and this journey was amazing. Well worth doing.

Interesting town with cultural heritage.

Interesting town with cultural heritage. I was just passing through en route from Italy to London but it is a perfect stopover for one night. Unfortunately I was there on a Monday, when some attractions eg the castle are closed but I did visit the cathedral. There are many restaurants which sell local produce.

Beautiful city with mountains all around.

Beautiful city with mountains all around. Generally people look healthy out and about running or on their bikes and there is an obvious commitment to environmental issues. The museum is the best art gallery I have ever been to! Easy city to be out and about in with so many inviting cafes and bars and spectacular views from the telegraphique

I lived in Chambery for a year 20 years ago.

I lived in Chambery for a year 20 years ago. It is the ideal blend of bigger town conveniences and smaller town authenticity. At first drive or walk through, you might think “pass”. But if you get out and start to walk around the central heart of town and also realize the history here, you discover Chambery’s charm.
