A visit to the old city is definitely worth while. Be prepared though for a steep climb if you are making your way up from the harbour. Take a Corsican beer or an ice cream on the main square right across from the church and observe the crowd. Do not miss to visit the "L'Orriu" which has an amazing selection of Corsican charcuterie and other local products. Some of the restaurants have terraces with splendid views across the bay. If you want to got to the beach Palombaggia is the place to go. It is nicely located under pine trees and is still a very "virgin" beach. We were in Porto-Vecchio off season. With the streets being very narrow and limited parking space availability it is likely that moving around the city in July / August may be somewhat of a challenge.
Cozy small town well situated along the west coast of Corsica. Recommended to have a car which allows for truly great excursions to many wonderful places along the coast; including beautiful sandy beaches and spectacular mountains.
Ajaccio has little to recommend it . The traffic is the worst I have seen in years and the parking possibilities are essentially non-existent. While the historic center is quite nice (without being especially striking), the rest of the city is comprised of ugly, concrete, Soviet-style apartment blocks, many under construction, which just adds to the terrible road conditions. The downtown shopping area is overrun with the thousands of 6-hour stay folks pouring off the 1-3 cruise ships that are in port each day. The Maison Bonaparte is very interesting but you need to get there right at opening time to avoid looooonnnnng lines. The impressively-sited citadel is a run-down and apparently abandoned former army facility surrounded by barbed wire, and full of litter and donkey poop. What a wasted opportunity for the city! The history museum - which might be interesting - was closed indefinitely. My recommendation - spend your time in the mountains and elsewhere in Corsica. If you have to be here, go out west to the Iles Sanguinaires - beautiful.
San Gavino di Carbini is ideally located in the Alta Rocca of Corsica. A beautiful village with a beautiful church with wonderful views of the surrounding area. The local population was very friendly towards us on our walks around the village. We very much enjoyed our stay here, and look forward to a return visit!
Corsica is expensive for everything. Car hire essential as no trains in South and buses pretty invisible. Beaches beautiful but out of reach without vehicle. Mountain villages including the famed Zonza were disappointing
Bastia is a charming coastal town in northern Corsica. We enjoyed stunning views, lovely rock beaches, warm hospitality, and delicious local products.
Not pretty despite the port/ beach location. No charm. No there there.... the old city was focused on tourism... shop after shop of beach clothing and Corsica souvenirs. Unremarkable cuisine.
Ajaccio and Bastia are the two biggest cities in Corsica. So it has a lot of history especially surrounding Napoleon. It's a good place to do a two night stop and then move on to other parts of Corsica. Chez Paulo was a good lunch stop near Napoleon's house. The little train is a good way to see Napoleons grotto.
We expected a charming hilltop town and beautiful views like most of Corsica. We found the area dry, unimpressive, with a tiny old town center and not much else. The drive to Restonica was beautiful but not really worth going to Corte. There are too many other beautiful places in Corsica!
I lived here for a time and recently went back to visit, and it is exactly the same: beautiful, intimate, wonderful. It has a quasi-city feel without the hassle of the city. It has beautiful mountain and water views, and there's always somewhere to go and something to do. Just a word of warning, summer is the best time to go; a lot of places shut down during the winter and Corsican weather in the winter can get cold and rainy.
The apartment is in the best spot a tourist can desire in Bonifacio. It is new, just finished, and we found it very clean. We were welcomed by a super host, Isabelle, who welcomed us with some bonus treats and gave us plenty of advice over what to do in the area. We followed many of the suggestions and our experience couldn’t have been better. I recommend this place hands down, it made our stau in Corsica from great to perfect. Our host also has an awesome restaurant next door which we felt in love with, highly recommended as well!!
Porto-Vecchio
Great location, close to the best beaches in Southern Corsica. 5 min drive to the nearest supermarket & boulangerie. Great restaurant less than 5 min walk away. Well appointed apartment with onsite laundry facilities. Swimming pool was great, not heated which I prefer as I want to feel refreshed from swimming. The onsite manager (I don't recall her name) was super efficient and provided us with some great recommendations of places to eat and visit especially the "3 piscines" rock pools - amazing spot.
Apartment Kalliste is well located. 10 minute walk from railway and 5 minute to Place Saint Nicholas the main square with Tourist information Office. The bakery where you collect the key is fantastic. If you want to arrange luggage storage anytime contact - corsica.loisirs.aventure@gmail.com or phone +336 12023202. He is punctual and will pick up and drop off at Tourist Information Office. There is a supermarket just around the corner. Great shopping in Bastia. The apartment is in a quiet area.
I have stayed in Hotel St.Joseph for a holiday and it was the best property I could choose. The owners, especially Mr. Jean Francois Martelli was making sure that his guests are very well taking care of. I really feel like at home. The entire staff was very friendly, rooms were very clean, Wi-Fi was great and breakfast excellent. I would recommend this hotel to all my family and friends and will choose it again if I come back to Corsica. The overall experience exceed my expectations.
Ajaccio
I loved the room, bathroom, and common area. The whole apartment is sparkling clean and the A/C worked very well. The Rosie has to be commanded for the friendliest welcome! Françoise was so nice! She gave me great tips about the area and really made sure I had all I needed and more. The whole Rosie family is wonderful and I can’t thank them enough for making my first days in Corsica so welcoming. Merci, merci, merci! I really appreciated all you did!
The hotel is very beautiful. We got there early and were allowed to already get into our room. The building is a beautiful mix between old walls and modern infrastructure. We slept in three hotels in corsica, and we had by far the best night sleep in this hotel: comfortable bed, true darkness at night a functional airconditioning that is truly silent at night. Furthermore it was close to the city center, so ideal for exploring ajaccio a bit.
Despite the name, the hotel doesn`t resemble the "old castle"at all. Quite comfortable. My daughter and I really liked the pool, which we visited in the morning before leaving. The only thing that spoiled the mood is the price. Well, very expensive! Despite the pandemic and the almost complete absence of foreign tourists, the arrival of the French was enough. Prices for hotels in Corsica in July were not merciful....
Corsican hotels are super expensive, I usually stay at my family house but this time I rent a room and it was difficult to find a better price. This hotel had the most competitive price and everything was in very good condiction. The staff very informative and polite and friendly. The room was big with a balcony facing the port, the airconditioning could have not been better. The Shower was excellent.
I must highlight two things which we really like. At the first breakfast (I recommend to order a breakfast, because they were really good - Corsican ham, cheese, fresh bread and also some Corsican jam - all of very good quality, not some cheap food). Secondly the Hotel has a good location - quite close to the old town, but not so close so you will be disturbed at night by night life.
Porto-Vecchio
Excellent location outside Porto Vecchio, close to the best beaches of Corsica. The property is located in the green area and the view is wonderful (mountain and sea at the same time). The apartments are well planned and functional. The kitchen is well equipped. The pool is quite big and the pool area very nice. The staff is friendly and helpful.
This property is excellent, it is clearly not common to find this level in Corsica. (we live in Dubai so the hotel industry in France usually looks a bit old fashion to us) Modern, cosy and with an extremely professional staff (fluent in English, elegant, helpful.) A very good surprise in our Corsican trip, we definitely recommend their place.
Sainte-Lucie de Porto-Vecchio
Very nice host and easy check-in. The apartment is very clean and comfortable and at a very quiet location! The location is perfect, within 30 mins you can be at the best beaches of Corsica! There is a nice garden where you can make a barbecue as well. All over all, nothing to dislike and we will be back for sure :).
Conveniently located for Palombaggia Beach (10 minutes' walk away), only 20 minutes from Porto Vecchio by car, family run with friendly and competent staff, owner interesting to talk to about Corsica. Free WiFi available in the main reception area, but not in the guest rooms. Terrific swimming pool.
Vegetarian food is rare in Corsica (How vegans manage I don’t know), but the restaurant sized up the starter so I had an excellent mushroom dish. My daughter in law who eats almost anything, loved the dinner menu. Thé breakfast menu was also excellent. Daughter in law also enjoyed the pool and sauna.
Porto-Vecchio
Very friendly staff, possibility to grill on the balcony, good swimming pool that the kids could use even late at night. Good (redundant) air conditioning. And this is a good town to be based out of in Corsica. Also washed all our clothes for a fixed price of €10, very convenient.
Beautiful facilities, perfectly kept gardens and pool area, rooms kept spotless every day, professional friendly staff and the quality of the fantastic food best we had on Corsica, don’t hesitate just book this fantastic little gem of a hotel we’ll be dreaming of it for a long time
A first rate hotel and experience - plus outstanding food. I really appreciated that a Michelin starred restaurant highlighted very affordable and excellent Corsican wines over the higher priced French (though also excellent) wines. Lastly, the cheese course is a must have.
The breakfast was incredible. The service was spectacular. The room and decor were so beautiful. I could not recommend this hotel more. We were traveling from the US and do not speak French and the hotel staff were so friendly and helpful. This was our best memory in Corsica!
Hotel in the small and charming village of Alata, away from busy Ajaccio. The room and the restaurant offered incredible views over the gulf. Nice and welcoming atmosphere, we also had a tasty Corsican dinner during our stay. The room was quite spacious and clean.
Porto-Vecchio
Fantastic place, really ideal for Holiday. The apartman is well equipped, amazing view for the most beautiful beach of Corsica. The staff is very helpful and polite, and also the managment of the hotel is extremly correct and fair we never ever experienced before.
