Roi Soleil Prestige is located in Saint-Avold, just a 30-minute drive from Metz. Free Wi-Fi access is available and there is also a 24-hour reception. Just off the Motorway, Roi Soleil Prestige was easy to find and there was plenty of parking directly in front of the Hotel. It was a perfect place to break our journey between Austria and Dunkirk. Reception was friendly, professional and efficient (thank you so much Julian). Our room, like the rest of the Hotel, was beautifully decorated and delightfully quirky. Our room was very comfortable, the twin beds and bathroom very good indeed. Once settled in, we had drinks in the super little bar and Reception ordered us a takeaway from the local Italian (!) which we ate in the dining room ... perfect after a long drive. After an excellent night’s sleep a delicious breakfast set us up for the day. Loved the Hotel so much, we returned to it on our way back to Austria a week later!
Built in 1906, La Demeure De La Dame Du Fer sits in a 4-hectare landscape park. It offers free WiFi access, a restaurant, a terrace and an elevator. when you drive up the driveway a beautiful château surrounded by luxury terraces and extended gardens appears in the woods. When you enter building the interior is just as beautiful and everything you expect a castle to look like. Grand stairs lead to the upperfloors and everything is just as beautiful with eye for detail. Our room was just as tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The gardens are big enough to take a small stroll and you get a good view on the grandness of the place. Staying in this hotel is an experience by itself.
Located in Bussang, Auberge Alsacienne is a 12-minute drive from Larcenaire Ski Resort. It offers a terrace and an à la carte restaurant. The food is brilliant. The location is convenient, and the building, which is being extended, is "proper French". The cost for accommodation is very reasonable but take care: you very likely to want to eat "in" and the food is tooo tempting: the best meal we had on our 28-day driving holiday.

Very interesting area for those interested in World War 1. The huge battlefield is a protected area with many monuments, museums, fortresses, and other testimonies of the war etc... Lots of paths for long walks. Verdun itself is rather ordinary but the centre along the river is quite nice. A visit to the citadel is a must, the new ride inside the tunnels is very good. Overall, in view of the 100th anniversary of the battle, most historical places have been renovated and improved. Ask for a Pass Lorraine if you intend to visit several places, it provides a good discount.
Some beautiful old buildings and Duke Stanislaus has left a major legacy. Art Nouveau buildings give Nancy a difference from other French towns. as with other areas in the Alsace- Lorraine region, we found the food served in brasseries, cafes and restaurants too heavy and "stodgy" for our taste, but then that's personal preferences. People were pleasant and helpful when asked to assist.
Its the old capital of Lorraine so is full of historic civic and ducal buildings. There are some very nice parks and some areas by the rivers and canals have been developed as leisure areas. There are plenty of shops and restaurants and the sort of facilities you would expect in a regional capital. I didn't get much chance to explore it but the surrounding countryside is low hills and woods and looked very attractive. I only had a few days in the city but I would love to go back.
The capital of Lorraine is perhaps overlooked by Anglophone tourists, but has an elegance, charm and interest that makes for a fascinating visit. The Place Stanislas is world-class (as the UN classification confirms) but there are also a number of other fine examples of late Medieval and 17/18th architecture and a remarkable collection of Art Nouveau buildings. The park of La Pepiniere is a lovely oasis, a stone's-throw from Stanislas. The little tourist train that leaves from Place de la Carriere is an ideal way to have a first sight of all these attractions, especially when the weather is as hot as when we visited. Finally, the cafes and restaurants in Place Stanislas offer excellent opportunities for refreshment as well as for static sightseeing and people watching.
Metz is an historic city, capital of Lorraine, which has changed ownership over the centuries, It is an open city much influenced by it's French and German past, but also neighbouring Luxembourg. It is also a city of gently rolling hills, enough to give panoramic views, but not too difficult to walk around. The cathedral is magnificent, one of many excellent buildings. Open air dining was notable in a number of streets / places, during the Indian summer, I was there mid September, but the temperatures were more like July/August. Metz is also convenient for visiting other town inLorraine. I made a day trip to Verdun, another lovely, yet historic place.
The focal point of Nancy has to be Place Stanislas, with the Town Hall, the Opera, and the hotel where we stayed! We were lucky enough to be there on the first weekend of a flower festival in the square, celebrating 250 years of the Duchy of Lorraine being joined to France.
Have been to Metz several times and is a superb city. People there are extremely nice, helpful and happy to assist you in English, if you cant master your French. You have something new to see/do every time. The train station is a tourist sight in it's own right with some very intricate exterior design. The Cathedral is particularly impressive and worthwhile. However, be aware there are "beggars" in this area, which I strongly suspect don't earn their living through only begging. The Tourist Information Centre (very close to the Cathedral) is very modern, but could be improved by having toilets for use by the public (as there are none in the Cathedral either). The Centre Pompidou-Metz is quite quirky and for art aficionados. Big downside for Metz visitors is the expensive parking (and they issue penalties on regular basis), but a plus is that everything in the old town is close by so doable on foot. City is OK for navigating with a wheelchair/baby buggy - most streets are even pavement. Overall, I'd happily return there again and I suggest, when you do, make sure to eat a quiche Lorraine there, as Metz is the Lorraine region's capital :)
The fine arts museum, the Museum of Lorraine and the Museum Ecole de Nancy were all super interesting! The people on the street were friendly and we had several stop to offer us help when they saw us looking at our map. Walking around to find the remaining examples of the Art Nouveau houses and public buildings was a lot of fun and there is a selection of truly gourmet restaurants.
Village houses are in the style of Lorraine, but the ambience is immeasurably improved by virtue of the fact that there is a lot of money about, and the houses, gardens and surprising amenities (including lawned car park, children's playground, park) are beautifully kept. Village stands on a butte on the edge of the Argonne forest, with extensive views over the countryside. Not far from the A4 motorway and the LGV Gare de Meuse/lorraine. Extremely tranquil, scenic location. Main street finishes at the end of the village, so no traffic. Easy parking.

This is a vast house with vast rooms. It therefore contains a great many intersting objects and paintings. The weather was not good but the warm welcome soon drove away the cold. The hospitality was generous and we spent a very pleasant and interesting evening around a variety of drinks and food. Unfortunately, the location is not ideal for travellers from the UK (a bit far from the Channel) but it is worth a detour and it provides access to some interesting places in Lorraine.

Convenient location, withing a 5 minute walk to the central train station and the convention centre. Rooms were clean, and tidy with a shower (instead of a shower over a bathtub) which was appreciated. The extra touch of a one page newspaper on the door every morning was a lovely touch. Breakfast was good, with lots of variety and local Lorraine dishes. The friendly staff were great too!

Didn't use the Campanile restaurant, but can thoroughly recommend for a perfect dinner, Le Bistro De Mario, 10 minutes away in Saint-Avold town. If you have time in the morning on the way back to the Autoroute, spend an hour at the Lorraine American Cemetery - it's an emotional visit you will never ever forget.

This Hotel is 3 miles outside the town of Vittel. Not within walking distance. This was a stop over so we did not investigate the surrounding area although it looked as though there was plenty of walking . Vittel is a small spar town. We found a good Pizza place to eat but the town was pretty deserted at night. Our room was an adequate size, with tea and coffee available in the room . The staff were charming and helpful . The swimming pool was wonderful.
