"Liked the friendly hotel reception of students and supervisor. Very pleased with our hotel room which was modern and generously large, with an extremely warm and comfortable bed. We had booked for an evening meal in the hotel restaurant which is also staffed by students. As it is a training restaurant, there was more than the normal ratio of waitresses, but this did not detract from a well-cooked and served 4-course meal. Just also to mention, their bar is also a lovely modern place to relax with a drink. Would give 4 stars and a positive recommendation to stay. also a big plus, for Biarritz, hotel parking is available, free and in a secure site."

"A beautiful little town with a gorgeous old town, lovely river. amazing covered market and cathedral. Lots of lovely restaurants and shops, beautiful squares to sit and drink coffee/wine in, and plenty going on. Can't recommend highly enough for a couple of days, and so easy to get in and out of the airport. Wish we'd had longer!"

"We know the area and were primarily there to visit a friend. We were on a budget so had to use public transport, which turned out to be super easy to use. You can pay with cash or bank card directly on the bus (you can only buy one ticket with a bank card, however) or you can buy a loaded card with ten tickets (which you can use for more than one person) at machines at train stations, principal stops and tobacconists. Timetables are given at bus stops and are accurate. Make sure you know when the public holidays are, as these affect public transport considerably. The bus journey to Biarritz station is less than half an hour (depending on the route they take) and from there you can travel quickly and inexpensively to St Jean de Luz, Bayonne and elsewhere. The three towns I have mentioned are so close by, yet so contrasting and are all worth a visit. The number 36 bus (a little further away from the apartment - maybe 8-10 mins walk) give you access to beaches up the coast, like La Madrague. I used Google Maps a lot and found its advise re: public transport super helpful. My teenage girls loved the frothy hot chocolate at Chez Cazenave in Bayonne, https://www.chocolats-bayonne-cazenave.fr/4-nos-chocolats. On our last night, we ate at Casa Juan Pedro, http://casajuanpedro.com/en/home, in Biarrtiz's old port. They were welcoming, and the food was delicious and simply presented (our party includes seafood enthusiasts and picky eaters)."

Bidart

One of 608 reviews:
"Bidart is a beautiful beach town that is very popular for surfers. This is town borders Biarritz (walking possible but a longer walk, driving within in 10 minutes) which also has a daily market to fill all fresh food needs. Bidart has more space to move around than neighboring tourist cities: walk on trails, paths that accommodate bikes and beaches, lots of green and ocean space. It is common to see small campers in parking lots (usually surfers) near beaches. This is our second time in Bidart and we are returning next year. The people who work in this area are relaxed and friendly. There are good quality bakeries, a prepared food shop (closed on Monday) that is very fair priced, many days there is a fruit and vegetable seller outside of this shop, supermarket with plenty of parking and an organic supermarket, with an easy to access gas station, a pharmacy, and is walkable throughout. There are many places to park (beach parking in major beaches and other parking) that is no cost. There are many neighboring towns that are easy drives or walks (some long, some shorter). It is easy to rent bikes in the Bidart center of town and many are now e-bikes. We usually go in May when tourism isn't as high, but there are still many people visiting due to the great surfing venue. We find that Bidart food prices are very fair as well."

Great place for a short visit.

Great place for a short visit. We liked the architecture and feel of the place. Plenty of walking with views over the town, good restaurants and beaches of various sizes, all walkable Local ppl were v helpful particularly in the shops AC in Galleries Lafayette was so welcome and their staff were amazingly polite and helpful to us shopping and looking after our dog. We didn't visit any attractions - will do that next time We visited during a heat wave so activities were limited

Bayonne felt really friendly, lots of places to eat snd drink, excellent museum of Basque life, well laid out and informative art gallery, beautiful stained glass in the cathedral. The heatwave disrupted a lot of the music festival - but Basque dancers danced nonetheless and people joined in the Basque songs. The chocolate tradition is amazing - only the heatwave prevented us from buying more to take home !

A beautiful seaside resort that has stood the test of time. Always a great destination with enough buzz and shopping to satisfy the most demanding of travellers, excellent food choices and of course gorgeous beaches. I have visited many times and it never disappoints.Don't forget to venture up to the chapelle de notre dame which gives a wonderful vantage point of the whole bay. A boat trip might also be nice. The bus network is very good and the city is compact enough to walk around. Maison Adam a must for macaroon from st jean de luz and you will also find an excellent gateau Basque. The restaurants near les halles are excellent too

The area is built up but still quiet, it is easy to get around with public transport or like most on bicycle. Great cycling routes through out the whole area. Easy to get to Biarritz or Bayonne both worth visiting. Cycling is great and getting out in to the country side is worth it. Nice cycling along the rivers on super cycle ways. The forests are great for more excitement. I ate at Ô Chalet, Les Sable d'Or and Lujo Pizza and Coffee.

This town has a great beach, an active fishing port, a proper hypermarket (Carrefour) and loads of street restaurants. It's pleasant to walk around and feels safe at night. Unfortunately the restaurants are all at tourist prices and all feature local cuisine with pretty much zero acceptance that the world may have some vegetarians who might want to eat something other than a salad. Asian restaurants are usually a safe fallback in such situations, but Ciboure doesn't have any (not even take-aways!), which is just weird. There is a pizza take-away, but it's well away from the centre.

Conveniently located for the city center and within walking distance from buses to Biarritz And St Jean de Luz. It feels as in the Basque country and the town has a pleasant central square with restaurants and a church. Accommodation was located not far from it, but going up and down a hill, which adds some time to the journey otherwise pleasant. There is a bakery, a grocery, souvenir shops and even a fashion store, and for more ample shopping supermarkets are just on the outskirts of town.

What an amazing town!

What an amazing town! It wasn't what I expected at all - like a cross between Santa Barbara and Monte Carlo. Chic, elegant, yet laid back and casual. Part small beach town, part couture city - and the rocky vistas in warm blue oceans are absolutely breathtaking. We want to go back every month - it's just so lovely!
