This hotel was exceptional in everyway. Quiet, large room, comfortable king sized bed and the sound of the stream through the windows was so tranquil. Staff so friendly and helpful. From the beautiful cooked breakfast to the scones and clotted cream every afternoon it just felt like home. Lots of walks from the beautiful Grasmere village. Jump on the bus if you wish to many places. Good restaurants nearby to walk to and tea rooms at the door. Just so relaxing this place. Lots of parking. Great outdoor and indoor space to relax with complimentary beverages. We will be back one day.

We asked for a breakfast tray in one of the mornings and it was amazing to literally get breakfast in bed, the best eggs I have had in a while :) The wagon is very well equipped, we brought a few kitchen bits but in the end we would only have needed to bring a knife. I had read in previous comments that the fridge in on the smaller side but it was more than enough for us.

Reception staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. It's a small and quaint hotel, but it far outweighs anything else in the area for that price. WiFi was strong given the area. Dog-friendly (with separate outdoor eating are so the furbabies can stay with the guests as they eat). Roast dinner served on weekdays. English breakfast was good.

Super town, lovely walking area, nice market 2 days a week.

Super town, lovely walking area, nice market 2 days a week. Love the brewery tap - Fox tap, especially the bao buns. The Theatre on the Lake show was brilliant this year. Best fish and chips from Kingfishers. Good meals at the Fell Pack and Casa Bella. We enjoy Booths - don't have that supermarket down south!

Wanted to walk around Thirlmere, but there's not much of a path for a mile or so along the road. There is a public footpath along the stone wall on the fell, but it's very rough. The footpath along the northern Eastern side of Thirlmere is quite overgrown, but mostly gravel so not too slippery. The little used tarmac road around the West side of Thirlmere is super quiet and would make a brilliant route for cycling. The infinity pool high on the Eastern side requires a very steep ascent and descent. It is also awash with teenagers since a tiktocker went viral with a review. But it's definitely worth a visit. Shame some of those teenagers can't even abide by the countryside code of 'leave no trace'!

We loved the scenery, bucket list walk, ticked ✅ off. We stayed in the Buttermere Court hotel, all staff very friendly, clean comfortable rooms, ours was first floor with a few small flights of stairs. Room 5 was over the dining room for residents not over the bar. Very flexible on cooked breakfast, perfect poached egg. Lake and Mountain View from room. Car park had cones for residents ready to use on arrival, free until departure at 11am moved the car a few spaces along and paid on return from walk. On the road side of the walk the terrain can be a little rocky and we walked through the tunnel. On return we had a lovely bowl of soup at Sykes farm cafe and a filled Yorkshire pudding just before the Bridge Hotel.

Beautiful area, ideal for exploring the lakes and Cumbria. There is so much to see and do whether by car, bike (lots of hills!) or by foot, you’ll not be short of excellent experiences. For instance Keswick has good parking and a lovely gallery and some excellent cafes. Make the most of your visit.

I only had one short walk through the village 'at the crack of dawn', but chatted to locals and tourists who were very pleasant. I was sorry not to get into the 'Tearoom', but it didn't open early enough, which was a pity. The hotels looked really appealing and sI would have liked to have time to try their breakfasts and other fare. Walking up to Watendlath and back from Rosthwaite a pleasant experience...especially for those familiar with 'Judith Paris' and the Herries Chronicles. However, the Watendlath tea room seems to be much more often 'shut' than 'open' in recent years, which disappoints.

This is the place to unwind, take in the amazing 360 scenery. Theres loads to do, walks, hike, rent bikes, kayaks, paddle boarding or just sit and watch the world go by. I ate at the restaurant Id booked The Glaramara hotel, they prepare exceptional food, my time was taken with hikes up Herons Pike, Scafell Pike and a good long walk around the Derwent lake. It’s a place that asks for your full attention and rewards it with a deep sense of peace. For me, Borrowdale isn't about what you do, but about what you feel—a sense of solitude and connection to something wild and enduring. I left feeling quite emotional and cant wait to return.

We loved Bassingthwaite lake as it was surrounded by lovely woods for walking, pretty villages and easy access to main roads but away from the bustle of the main towns. Plenty of restaurants to choose from too. Our favourite places were Dodds wood, Mirehouse and gardens with a walk down to the lakeside and Lingholme estate ,where apart from a marvellous restaurant, there were llamas to see and walk with.
