We were very lucky that Jean (who runs the camping barn) was nearby on-site throughout our stay, and she lit the woodburner for us every afternoon, taking the chill off for our return from walks during the freezing weather we have had during Storm Bert. (Sometimes Jean has to stay at her family's other farm elsewhere, and when that happens you have to fend for yourselves more). The beds were very comfortable, there were quilts and hot water bottles to supplement our sleeping bags, and the kitchen was adequately equipped for us to do basic catering for ourselves throughout our stay. The shower takes either £1 or 5x20ps and gives loads of time. There was also a wall-mounted fan-heater which worked on £1 coins but we didn't use that. There's little to no phone reception. The Stagecoach bus 555 runs past very regularly, so very easy access by public transport.

What a find!! The hotel was absolutely stunning! It was nice to see a newly refurbished hotel which was exactly that, recently refurbished! Everything was fresh and immaculately clean. The modern lounge areas were lovely to sit in and read my book as my partner went for a run on the lake side. The owners were incredibly polite and helpful when we spoke with them and the self check in system was efficient and easy. The local area was beautiful. Many bars and restaurants on our door step and lots of walks outside the front door. Incredible to find a hotel with a car park in Keswick town centre! We will most definitely be returning!

We stayed one night. The location was very nice and isolated from town and the main road! It was very picturesque! We stayed in the Family room with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. The staff were very accommodating and helpful. The bedrooms were a nice size and the balcony was a nice bonus! We had a couple of sandwiches and they were both delicious and very nicely presented. We did not stay long enough to enjoy this fabulous property but we'll be back!

Wanted to walk around Thirlmere, but there's not much of a path for a mile or so along the road. There is a public footpath along the stone wall on the fell, but it's very rough. The footpath along the northern Eastern side of Thirlmere is quite overgrown, but mostly gravel so not too slippery. The little used tarmac road around the West side of Thirlmere is super quiet and would make a brilliant route for cycling. The infinity pool high on the Eastern side requires a very steep ascent and descent. It is also awash with teenagers since a tiktocker went viral with a review. But it's definitely worth a visit. Shame some of those teenagers can't even abide by the countryside code of 'leave no trace'!

Easy access to various walks in the area to suit all grades of walkers. This area is less busy than the more touristy locations nearby of Keswick and Grasmere. However easy access to both by car or bus. Bus frequency during the day every half hour. Used bus for Grasmere as parking most difficult to find there.

There is a good viewpoint with parking about 0.7 miles south of the Kings Head where we stayed. Over at Derwent water the 'Surprise View' is also worth a visit, but be aware access is by a twisty single track lane so unsuitable for large vehicles. There's a small car park free to National Trust members.

Great walking opportunities here, although you can never predict the lake district weather!!! Easy (ish)(the ish is because it is steep not difficult!!) access to the Helvelyn range, but also to some smaller hills, such as Raven Crag and High rigg. Nice to be able to go and see the dam too.

Amazing location and was just 1.5 miles away from car park that takes us to top of Helvellyn mountain. Nice and easy under 10 min drive to Keswick which was very conveinent. Thirlmere Dam and the hike up the hill next to it is a good one to go around as well. The breakfast at Kings Head Inn in Thirlmere was very good..
