United KingdomMaria and her mum are very helpful, kind and friendly. The terrace overlooking the sea, shaded by a couple of trees, is a nice place to have your coffee while watching the sunrise. The Metochi is literally on the bus stop but, because the hotel is located in the centre of the island, it is possible to walk to every beach in about 1 or 2h depending on the beach. The taverna serves good authentic Greek food at reasonable prices.

I don't write reviews except in exceptional cases. I found Metochi Gavdos an exceptional good place. Maria was a joyful and helpful host, the rooms felt spacious and the outside area had a great vibe. One of the best price-quality places I have been to.

Very different, quite organised when you get there.
Very different, quite organised when you get there. Quiet and peaceful and simple. People are super friendly and communication was no issue. Getting round the island was simple with a scooter and a good pair of sturdy shoes for the hikes.

It’s like being at the end of the world.
It’s like being at the end of the world. A “Land That Time Forgot.” A place to unplug and disconnect. Experience it before it becomes developed and commercialized like other Greek island or places like Key West, Florida and Provincetown, Massachusetts.

Going to Gavdos means to leave one's comfort zone, although...
Going to Gavdos means to leave one's comfort zone, although the island's infrastructure has improved a lot, nothing comparable with 25 years ago.
Even in summer time and even having daily connections does not mean that the boat will arrive from mainland Crete; winds may change every day and connections may be cancelled on a short notice.
Nevertheless if you want to see something new, still quite unspoilt, if you want to hike, especially to Europe's southernmost point, if you want to enjoy lonely beaches, you might feel well on that island.
