Location is as perfect as it can be, first line in front of Poetto beach and less than 100m from La Sella del Diavolo beach bar, where the hotel keeps sun loungers you can use for free during your stay, additionally you can borrow a beach umbrella from the hotel for free and you can rent beach towels for a one time 3 EUR fee/person for your stay. The location is good for runners/bikes with dedicated lane on street, supermarket Despar was half a km away or ~7 min walk. The area has lot of restaurants, beach bars and it is not far away from the port. The beach was nice for us, it is shallow with crystal clear water, but the beach can get busy in afternoon. The hotel has a pool which is not that big but wasn't that busy for us during a peak summer period. Room was decently sized, cleaned daily and towels can be changed daily if you request it, AC was working fine and was okay to leave on entire night without feeling dry and cold in the morning. Slippers were provided. Breakfast was in a buffet format, many croissants, basic eggs and bacon, sweets, porridge, yogurt etc. For a summer holiday stay in Italy it was a good breakfast offer. Staff are very, very friendly so just ask questions about anything you need or you have problems with. The hotel doesn't have an iron, but the staff were kind enough to lend us a steamer for our clothes. They also arranged taxi for us both for arrival and departure from the airport with no hiccups. The hotel has several recommendations for restaurants, including one of their own which has a small discount. Cagliari is 15 minutes by bus, stop is 3 min walk from hotel, ticket costs 1.3 EUR one-way/person buy at the beach bar. The highlight for us was the fact the hotel is fine to allow the use of beach towel and lending of sun loungers, beach umbrella as well as provide access to pool for people who have already checked out on their last day. You can store the luggage safely and there is a toilet near the reception.

FAQs about hotels in Sardinia

Jewel of the Mediterranean

This fabulous Italian island is an exclusive holiday destination, so of all the Sardinia hotels 5 star properties make up a good proportion. Several are on the wonderful Emerald Coast, known for its stunning scenery. Because of the fantastic beaches and coves, this area (Costa Smeralda in Italian) houses some of the best Sardinia hotels for families.

Amazing Emerald Coast resorts include Porto Rotondo, Porto Cervo with its exclusive harbour, and Baia Sardinia. Palau overlooks the La Maddalena archipelago, a national park comprising peaceful islands. There are also several Sardinia hotels on the beach in Pula, a resort popular with locals.

Sardinia also has lots of history to explore. Close to Pula is Nora, where there are remains of a Roman town. Other Roman ruins are found in a dramatic setting at Tharros, near Oristano.

However, it’s the nuraghe - prehistoric megaliths - that are typically Sardinian. Found all over the island, these stone structures are incredibly well preserved. The most famous is Su Nuraxi in Barumini and there are several near Alghero, a walled city with narrow streets and a sandy beach. The prehistoric settlement at Tiscali in the Gennargentu mountains is most easily accessed from Dorgali.

Booking.com also has hotels in Cagliari, the island’s capital. Bastione San Remy offers panoramic city views towards fabulous Poetto beach beyond.

From the moment we arrived at Su Gologone, we knew we were in for something extraordinary — but what we experienced went far beyond our expectations. This is not just a hotel; it's a destination in itself, a soulful and immersive celebration of Sardinian art, culture, and craftsmanship. Every corner of the property tells a story. The hotel is meticulously curated, with stunning artistic details, hand-painted tiles, vibrant textiles, and thoughtfully placed artifacts that reflect the island’s heritage. You can feel the heart and history in every space. It’s like walking through a living museum — one that you get to sleep, eat, and dream in. We honestly lost track of time just wandering through the many hidden nooks, terraces, and art installations scattered throughout. Every turn offered a new surprise, a new moment to savor. The staff were equally remarkable — incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely passionate about making your stay memorable. Despite the elegance of the setting, there’s nothing pretentious here — just warm, Sardinian hospitality at its finest. And then there’s the food: an absolute highlight. Dinner was such an experience, rooted in tradition but elevated with creativity and care. The ingredients were fresh, seasonal and the flavours rich and authentic . The wine selection was equally impressive, showcasing an incredible range of local Sardinian labels that complemented every dish beautifully. Su Gologone doesn’t just offer luxury — it offers meaning, depth, and connection. It’s a place that stays with you long after you leave. We’re already planning our return, and next time we’re staying longer to soak in every moment of this magical place.

I spent six year in Alghero on and off in the 1980's and was here last year, back again next year. Alghero has changed a lot with major renovation works to the old town. There are more tourists now, so can be very busy in the summer months. It remains a nice town, with a lot of history. This can take time to wade through, one visit won't do it. There are some remnants of WW2, pillbox at the port and one dug into the cliff past Las Tronas, there are pillboxes out in the country side. The beach starts at St Giovanni, I would give this a miss, the seaweed collects here and lets of the usual egg smell. The beach area gets progressively better and more crowded past the Lido. I went over to Maria Pia where the pine trees are and booked an umbrella & two sunbeds, €15 for half day, get there on time to get a subbed, around 08:00 in the morning and 14:00 in the afternoon. Grab and to go slice of pizza at Al Gambero is good for a quick bite. Restraints Alguer Mia and Dietro il Carecere are good places to eat, these are away from the town centre and where my relatives eat, these are fussy people. Are Italians rude? No, they are to the point. In restaurants they are accommodating and helpful, shops and bars if you're obviously a tourist they will accommodate, on the bus its pot luck. Make a trip to the market on a Wednesday just to buy cheese and salame, it's in the Lido area. When there check out the veg on sale. Sardegna gets hot, this year was around 36c, 96.8f for the Americans, every day. The scenery is amazing, You can see the detail of Capo Caccia in the early morning, as the day draws on the definition fades with the sun set which is great to see from the muraglia in the old town.

A charming, intimate town where, after a few days, the locals recognize you and say "ciao." Clean and peaceful. A street leads to the beach. The beaches are clean, wide, and gentle. A paradise for beachgoers. The landscapes are captivating.

although it seems like a small town, it is located in the heart of the east coast of the island and is perfect as a starting point to visit the beaches and cities in the east. many places with good food, close to the beach and a small, rustic but very beautiful town

This is nothing about Stintino, but about Spiaggia La Pelosa. During the summer months (May-Oct) there is a reservation system. In my opinion it's a scam. I was well planned and practiced to make my reservation at the correct time knowing once in, I had 60 seconds to complete it. I got in, but then the system was so overloaded I was "put in queue" and after one minute all 867 available slots which were available at 09:00 that morning when I began the reservation process vanished. How can 867 available beach slots be gone in one minute? A person reserving can only reserve four! Anyway, I call it a scam. Overrated. Suggestion: those who can't get reservations but still want to go to La Pelosa...go after 18:00 or before 08:00. Morning is best! We were able to enjoy it as the sun was rising.

La Maddalena is an amazing place if you want a relaxing holiday focusing on beaches and nature. We spent there about a week and everyday went to a different beach, and every new beach was more beautiful than previous one! There is a beautiful marine life, so bring your snorkeling gear! It was one of the biggest reasons we chose La Maddalena for holiday, and it exceeded our expectations! The best beaches for snorkeling where at La Caprera. Just swim next to the rocky edges of the beach, and you can find all the colorful fish there (also rogues and squids).
