Location - The location is 5 min form Hakodate station JR The room is very clean and also the water pressure is one of the best, I haven’t been to some many countries and hotel This is the 2 time I have stay here within 1 year, on both of my trip, next time when I go back I will stay here again

It is a fully facilitated one-bedroom apartment, spacious and with a full kitchen and a balcony that comes with a great view! The location was also pretty great. It is only a short walk to the Hakodate JR station and the Red Brick Warehouse (within 10mins). The tram stop is roughly 3min walk away door-to-door. We really enjoyed the apartment.

1) Excellent location - very near Hakodate JR Station, opposite Hakodate Morning Market, lots of food options nearby 2) Very friendly staff 3) There's also a lift in the property 4) Cleaning staff will replenish the essentials (via a plastic bag hanging OUTSIDE your doorknob) even if you put the "do not disturb" tag. Overall, had an excellent stay here :) Thank you to all the Hotel New Ote staff!

There is a special charm around Hakodate, which is...

There is a special charm around Hakodate, which is infectious and friendly. Indeed one of the helpers at the station thanked me, as a tourist from the UK, for coming to Hakodate. It isn't a big city - but by Japanese standards, but it offers a lot for the visitor. Plenty to see and do for a few days and with the sea on both sides of the city it offers good views in almost all directions. It is so easy to get about, although, for me, walking was ideal, it isn't too far to get to anywhere in the city. If you do go up to Mt Hakodate, be aware that they do cram you on the cable car - called a ropeway here, so for the claustrophobic, make sure you stand at the edge. Also, just before and just after dusk is when its most popular and as they don't limit the number of people going up, it gets very very very crowded. (It is the only place I've been in Japan when the people are pushing and shoving to get views)

Assabu is a charming and quiet town in southern Hokkaido, perfect for travelers looking to experience the slower, more authentic side of Japan. Surrounded by lush forests and farmland, it offers a peaceful retreat from the busier tourist spots. While Assabu is small, it has a few unique and culturally rich spots that we visited: 1. Assabu Kyodo Shiryokan – A local history museum that gives insight into the town’s heritage. 2. Assabu Shinrin Tenjikan – A forest-themed museum showcasing the region’s natural environment. Gallery Somabito – A quaint shop featuring local crafts and handmade goods. 3. Michi-no-Eki Assabu – A roadside station where you can find local produce, souvenirs, and snacks. The town is also known for its connection to hinoki-asunaro (thujopsis) forests, which are rare this far north in Japan. The food here is simple, fresh, and made with local ingredients—perfect for those who appreciate home-style cooking.

One of the best morning markets in Hokkaido - bigger and...

One of the best morning markets in Hokkaido - bigger and less costly than the ones in Otaru and Sapporo. Good place for seafood. Good location for short day trips to the coast. One of the easiest entry points to Hokkaido via Shinkansen from Tokyo and flights into New Chitose Airport. Very safe and clean.

Hakodate per se is a quaint lite town, whose main attractions can be visited in one day. However, it can serve as a hub for exploring southern Hokkaido as it has all the necessary services. Food is certaiy a plus, particularly seafood, and prices are lower than elsewhere. Also, compared to larger towns on Honshu, it has a frontier-type of vibe.
