Definitely the best hotel in the region! The room was very nicely decorated, very clean and comfortable. Onsite free parking. Walking distance to a couple of nice local cafés and supermarket. Really enjoyed our overnight stay while cycling the Shimanami Kaido. It is a lovely restored house, beautifully decorated and we felt right at home. The rooms and beds were comfortable. There is a shared kitchen which is roomy and well equipped. Salt met us for check in and was very friendly welcoming. Would definitely come back next time and would recommend to others :)

The mid point of the Shimanami Kaido and unfortunately we only stayed one night. This was an awesome hotel and if you are planning to do some more riding in the area it would be a very good base. We had dinner and breakfast included in the price and these were outstanding meals. Dinner was Robayaki cooked on the deck in front of our room and included Wagyu, Chicken, Shrimp and lots of veggies. Breakfast was fresh croissants, egg and bacon and salad with good coffee. The facilities are good and the view excellent. The staff were also excellent. We wish we had of stayed longer, but do intend to come back and do more cycling in the area.

This small hotel by the beach was fantastic ! The hosts are extremely nice, and accommodating. The overall hotel is charming, the onsen very beautiful, and the highlight of our stay was the kaiseki diner ! Be careful though: the futon and the western beds are a bit hard.

Staff are super helpful, also tried very well in English, and had information ready for you in English. The room is small but could still fit quite well with our bags - we only stayed shortly. The onsen was fantastic! So beautiful and peaceful. Everyone was respectful and quiet. Lovely with free ice cream after!

I would rate Funaya an 11 if I could. I have stayed in some nice onsen ryokans before but this place is next level in every aspect. Everything about my stay here made me say "wow". The visual aesthetic and atmosphere of the building is super charming, a bit dated some might say but to me it just spoke to the long history of the place. The staff are friendly, helpful, and the service was impeccable. I found that their manner was a little more human than other high end ryokans I've stayed at where the staff can be a bit robotic sticking to their script all the time. Our room was massive, literally the biggest ryokan room I've ever seen. 12 tatami mats for the main room, another 8 off to the side in another room - plus the sitting alcove by the window, meditation/writing room, not to mention the bathroom with double sink, separate adjoining washroom with wooden Japanese bathtub, a separate toilet, and a substantial hallway linking it all up. Oh, that was just the "standard Japanese style room" too. We also had a nice little balcony with a view of the garden and the castle in the distance. The garden is a real highlight, beautiful, tranquil, there's even a foot bath. I really wish we'd been able to spend more time in it but it rained the day we were there. Meals were fantastic. Set kaiseki for dinner, which I don't normally like, but my partner and I just swapped things we didn't like and we were able to really enjoy it. Breakfast we had the choice of western or Japanese style - we had one of each and both were great. Nice not to have to deal with cold food at the buffet for a change. The actual baths are top notch, probably equal best I've used. Lots of space to wash, a couple of separate baths for soaking, and outdoor baths as well to cool off on the night air. Water temperature was perfect. We were able to leave our car with them for a bit after checking out to go for one last wander in Dogo.

During our pilgrimage along the 88 Temples Trail, staying at JR Clement Uwajima was one of the most pleasant and revitalizing experiences we had. Before facing a challenging 30 km stage, we treated ourselves to a stay here — and it couldn’t have been better. I’ve worked in hospitality for over ten years and rarely have I found such kind, thoughtful, and professional staff. The services offered are truly outstanding: free happy hour, 24-hour coffee and drinks, a smoking area on every floor, vending machines, microwaves, and beautiful, well-curated amenities. The room was extremely comfortable, with a great bed and a spacious, modern shower. You can feel the attention to detail and the guest’s well-being. Also, the location is strategic, perfect for exploring the area. My sincerest compliments to the hotel manager and the entire staff: a wonderful example of Japanese hospitality.

This could probably be the best hostel in my 3 months visit to Japan. The staff is the nicest you could meet, very friendly, good English, they make you really feel at home. The recommendations they give for restaurants are the best. Nice communal area with simple kitchen, where you can meat other travellers. The beds and showers are fine, the pods are perfect 3200 yen per night. Of course everything spotlessly clean. So, next to the station this is thé place to stay in Imabarl.

The hotel was very centrally located. The staff were incredibly helpful and kind. The hotel accommodations were basic, but they offered any additional services or items in the front which you could easily take with you up to your room. I appreciate this method as it reduces waste per room. The breakfast was EXCELLENT and I felt safe parking my bicycle. Would definitely stay here again if I come through Imabari.

Hotel is about 5 minutes walk to JR station, very easy to find the way. We are cycling at Shimanami-Kaidou, the hotel is a good starting point. Hotel lobby inside has bike parking facilities. Receptionists are friendly and helpful. Onsen is big and clean. Staff at onsen are also very friendly too! Room is clean and big which have bridge view outside. Good restaurants near the hotel.

It is located a little outside, but most of the tourist attractions were about a 30-minute walk and the tram stop was very close, making it easy to move around. The staff is very friendly and the facilities are clean, so there is no inconvenience in accommodation, and there is a free breakfast and happy hour for guests, so the price is very satisfactory

The hotel is very close to the tram, less than 10 minutes' walk. Walking from the hotel can quickly reach the Okaido store street. The check-in went smoothly and the front desk service was very good. I only spent one day in Matsuyama, but I thoroughly enjoyed...

I only spent one day in Matsuyama, but I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. I also took some time to explore the surrounding areas, including the shoreline at Iyo-Kaminada, Shimonada Station, Iyo-Ozu, and Yawatahama. In Matsuyama itself, Dogo Onsen was an amazing and historically fascinating place. The attractions in the surrounding region also made Matsuyama an even more appealing destination. Enjoyed a relaxing hot spring experience at the Dogo Onsen Annex Asuka-no-Yu. It is great to get around the city via the city tram as it connects all the major tourism spots. If time allows, I would love to stay longer next time and explore more of the city and its surroundings. I will definitely visit again.

A cyclist's paradise! 🚴‍♂️ Here, you can have it all: safe roads, quiet and beautiful countryside, and stunning coastline scenery. You can even stop to visit shrines along the way. It’s absolutely perfect for a group trip.

Saijo is a quiet yet charming city, often known as the “City of Water.” Clear and fresh spring water can be found throughout the town, creating a refreshing and peaceful atmosphere. The pace of life here is slow and relaxing, and the local people are warm and friendly, which makes visitors feel very comfortable. In the distance, you can see the magnificent Mount Ishizuchi, and the harmony between the city and nature is truly beautiful. Whether strolling through the streets or simply enjoying the local lifestyle, the experience leaves a lasting and wonderful impression. Saijo is also known for its rich variety of locally grown vegetables and fruits. When we visited in March, it was strawberry season, and the different varieties of strawberries each had their own unique flavors. It made us hope to return in another season to experience a different side of Saijo.

The island has a very slow pace. Great for relaxing. We came here on a motorcycle/fishing trip. The motorcycle part was great. The fishing part…. was difficult😩 Lots of chinu (black bream) around and big, but they were not interested in the lures we used. Saw some locals catching them with bait, so we will have to change our strategy next time! Also, squid fishing is quite popular. One more thing, many restaurants only open for lunch or close/take last orders early so be prepared for this or you’ll be eating convenience store foods!🤣

The clock in front of the Dogo Onsen is magic. Also, the Botchan train is well worth the visit, although we weren't able to have our visit co-incide with the running days, but had the experience in the past. Unfortunately, our stay was too short to experience the shopping street and castle, which we've heard is something every visitor should see.

This city is small however has way too much to offer to see...

This city is small however has way too much to offer to see in one day. I highly recommend staying here at minimum 3 days to take in all the things. Now some may think the towel museum or factory might be something boring but I beg to differ. I didn't see these but after experiencing the towels I'm sorry I didn't visit them both. Also what I didn't realized is that this area is is known for it's Ramin. OMG so good.

We were involved in the 7 bridges bike ride over 2 days so...

We were involved in the 7 bridges bike ride over 2 days so we only stayed in Imabari for one night. If I was to do this trip again I would do it over 3 or 4 days in order to stay a little longer and explore.

Matsuyama is a lovely city that is known for the Dogo Onsen,...

Matsuyama is a lovely city that is known for the Dogo Onsen, however there are so many areas I would love to return to explore. At the time of my visit, most of the visitors were Japanese interested in the onsen. There is a wonderful shopping passage with lots of local souvenirs, both foods and made goods. The people were very friendly, as like much of the rest of Japan, it was very clean and felt very safe. The castle was a treat as it is one of the remaining original ones in Japan.

Very fantastic area for shimanami kaindo If you are planning to ride bike in shimanami kaido Try to stay in Imabari city at least one night or choice here as start/end the leave other night on other island
