Boasting an indoor swimming pool and a large public bath, Imabari Kokusai Hotel is located a 10-minute walk from JR Imabari Station. Free WiFi is available throughout the property. The hotel has a luxurious feel, it is very close to the station and to Imabari Castle. The view from the room was excellent and the size of the room compared to Japanese standards was great. Breakfast was tasty with a wide selection of western/Japanese cousine and the whole hotel had a calm atmosphere. The staff was very helpful as well.

Located in Imabari, 6 km from Nomauma Highland, Cyclo No Ie provides air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi. Cycling is among the activities that guests can enjoy near the guest house. very close to JR station, the owner is very nice and gave me a lot of useful information about shimanami kaido cycling. I came to check-in a little bit late, but I still got warm welcome. Room is also very bright and clean, very cozzy place to stay.
Set in Imabari in the Ehime region, Shimanami Kaido Sekisho no Yado Pompoko is a 2-star property featuring free WiFi. Very nice traditional place and the family were so friendly. I came by bike very late, and they came out to look for me. We're worried for my safety. The food was delicious, and they took as to see the observatory. Best place I have been to in Japan.
Guesthouse KUME is offering accommodation in Imabari. Featuring a shared lounge, the 3-star guest house has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, each with a shared bathroom. Great Guesthouse. Owners have fantastic English and communication before was great. Facilities are fantastic. Good location midway on the Shimanami Kaido. Didn't seem to be many restaurants in the area, so it's a good idea to take up the dinner and breakfast, which was excellent and great value. We loved it and would definitely and strongly recommend.

Providing free WiFi throughout the property, Sawaki is situated in Imabari. This 2-star ryokan offers free shuttle service and luggage storage space. Wonderful one night stop over on the Shimanami Kaido bicycle route. Very traditional Japanese ryokan with tataimi and futons. They drove us to a fantastic nearby onsen then we returned for an out-of-this world Japanese fish dinner. Breakfast was traditional Japanese and excellent.
The Cycling across Shinamami Kaido. More can be done to help cyclists with finding out about the landscape and where to get electric bikes for instance. The route is not easy for the recreational cyclist.
Imabari is one end of the famous onomichi to imabari cycle trip. That's why we were there. For tourists there isn't much there and recommend you travel on to the fabulous matsuyama as quickly as possible!
Imabari's castle is a MUST SEE PLACE! Probably one hidden gem unknown from foreign tourists. Imabari is famous for it's Towel, which can probably be found everywhere in Ehime's prefecture. To be honest, I found more of these towels being sold in Matsuyama than Imabari, even though they're called Imabari's Towels. The huge problem with Imabari is that public transport is a mess. There really is a FEW of them. If you wanna go someplace, you should really be careful. For example the 16 o'clock bus bringing you to some nice sunset place is also the last leaving bus from that place, some minutes after your arrival... So BE CAREFUL! Of course, if you're feeling like it : Imabari is also REALLY accessible by bicycle, which you can rent in lot of places and along the bridge. Because of such timetable, I was not able to visit as much as I wanted. The weather was also pretty bad, so I wasn't able to completely enjoy the location. Too bad ;)
The most beautiful view i got was at Kurushima straits bridge. It took me about an hour to cycle from hotel to the bridge - on the way i passed by rice fields, some interesting shops and imabari shipyard. The bridge connects various small islands and all the way to onomichi (70km away).
A nice place to rest if you are doing the main local attraction - Shimanami Kaido. Cycle down from Onomichi, rest up in Imabari and cycle back! If possible avoid using JR Shikoku trains if you have a bicycle. The train staff there will make your life hell if your bike is not packed to how they like it (nothing, including saddle should be showing). Some of the trains have a bike room - but there are too many rules and requirements for them to actually be convenient to use - including which days and what stations you can use them on. Of all the trains I've been on in Japan with my bicycle - Shikoku has been by far the worst experience (every single time).
There is not much happening in Imibari. We biked the Shiminami Kaido and stayed in Imibari before taking the train to Takematsu. In hindsight we should have got straight on the train and had an extra night in Takematsu or Kobe (our next stop).
