Well maintained. Fuss free check in & check out process. There's a hand drawn map pointing out the nearby food and shopping options at the front office. Very helpful. Sound proofing and heat insulation of the room is good. Love the mattress & pillows, not too hard or soft. My family enjoyed our stay here.

Very new and modern hotel. It has an Onsen on the top floor if you are into that and as a result there is no bath in the room but a shower which I think is much better use of the space.

Kamigakure is a real treat to stay in and was one of the highlights of our holiday in Japan. The room is incredibly spacious, well equipped with everything you could possibly need. There were thoughtful touches throughout like local sweets each day and drinks in the fridge to keep you hydrated whilst using the private bath and sauna. Our room also had a projector and screen, which could be watched from bed and was a real treat when unwinding in the evening. The breakfast and dinner each day were exceptional using local fresh produce. I liked that there was a menu before eating, which told you everything you would receive during the meal. The portion sizes were also perfect for us. Not too much and not too little. Location to the gorge is perfect and was within walking distance (15-20 minutes) with Takachiho Shrine on the way. Also, recommend trying Marumoku Coffee in the village (check his opening times on Instagram first as they vary day to day). Would also recommend the karaage restaurant across the road from Takachiho Shrine. Both excellent. The staff were a real pleasure and asset to Kamigakure. Very welcoming and couldn't do more to help you have a comfortable stay. I would definitely stay here again and it has given me fond memories of my trip that I'll always remember. Could not recommend more.

First, I was greeted by my own name in the lobby. There is probably not many foreign tourists, but anyway, it was the nicest welcome in the hotel. I asked for a quiet room and I got it, it was perfectly quiet. I did not hear a sound from the neighbours, or street or railway - which is like 2 minute walk from the hotel. All necessary amenities, which are the best in APA chain (especially their toothbrush) and most convenient from all. Othewise standard comfortable japanese hotel. Arigatou gozaimasu!

The room was bigger than expected with enough space for 3 of us without feeling that we are on top of one another. Love the jar provided to grab clean water outside of the room at the dispenser. The walk from the station was easy to push our luggages. Would love to spend more time here

Miyazaki surprises you with an Okinawan or Hawaian feeling that hits you the second you step out of the train station. It is a town with a nice southern atmosphere. There are a lot of day trips available from there, such as Aoshima, which is a must-do. It's easily accesible by train and plane and the aiport, in addition to be directly reachable by train, is one of the best local airports I've experienced in Japan.

We arrived in Takachiho after a morning at Mt Aso. When we arrived, we visited the gorge and did the walk from the free car park. Our boat ride was first thing the following morning but as we’d been the day before, we’d taken lots of photos and got the lay of the land. It made our morning very efficient as we were able to get on the road straight after our boat ride!

Miyazaki absolutely blew me away and is one of Japan's best...

Miyazaki absolutely blew me away and is one of Japan's best kept secrets. If you love Japan but find Tokyo too busy, this is the perfect alternative. It honestly feels like Hawaii, palm trees everywhere, tropical weather year round, and a laid back resort vibe you don't get anywhere else in Japan. The locals are some of the friendliest people you'll meet, everyone seems genuinely relaxed and happy, and that energy is contagious the second you arrive. For surfers and golfers, this place is a dream. I kept seeing surfers out at every beach we drove past, and apparently Miyazaki is considered the surf capital of Japan. Aoshima Beach was packed with people of all levels and there are surf schools everywhere if you want to learn. The golf scene is just as serious, with multiple courses tucked along the coast. Even if you're not a golfer or surfer, just watching it all happen against that coastline is something else. The nature and sightseeing side of Miyazaki is what really got me though. Driving the coast south through the cliffs and mountains is one of the most beautiful drives I've ever done, with hiking trails, hidden shrines, and waterfalls all over the place. Udo Shrine was a huge highlight, it's literally built into a cave under a cliff right on the ocean and felt like nothing I've ever seen. We also stumbled on Sun Messe Nichinan, a park with full size Easter Island Moai head replicas overlooking the Pacific, which sounds random but was honestly super cool. The food is phenomenal (especially the seafood!), and the nightlife holds its own against Tokyo if you want a fun night out. The airport is super convenient too with quick connections from Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka. Whether you want golf, surf, scenic drives, or just a relaxed tropical escape in Japan, Miyazaki is hands down an amazing choice!

I loved Takachiho!

I loved Takachiho! It was such a quaint and local Japanese town. The surrounding mountains were beautiful and even accentuated by the downpour of rain I had on the first day. Visiting the gorge was a bucket list item and I was pleasantly surprised when I found the Amanoiwato Shrine to visit the following day.

This is a very quiet traditional town that had everything we needed. The beach nearby was lovely (black sand) and the people very friendly. Good for access to surf beached but probably need a rental car if surfing. Very little choice in food but what there was, was delicious. very relaxing few days.

A really nice place to go to escape the city life in Japan.

A really nice place to go to escape the city life in Japan. If you miss it, you can always go to the city center, but the best parts are when you venture a little further south to the mountainside and beachside locations, with scenic views and fresh air. If you like swimming or surfing, the beaches are wonderful. The buses are very fast and frequent enough to make it friendly for those without a car, especially compared to Okinawa. It's warm enough and sunny even in December. Food wise it's famous for mango and yuzu, with many creative souvenir options at the airport and surrounding touristic areas.

We first visited Takachiho 14 years ago during March and decided to go back during a different season in October .The town has grown in size with a plush hotel and a local supermarket and getting around ismuch more easier . The only thing we would change would probably be the fun we had with the language barrier on our first visit . The Gorge is the main stay to the trip and we had the same reaction as last time that it blew us away again
