I am honestly in awe of my experience! The rooms were so big, spacious. The service was absolutely excellent. What truly amazed me was how the staff handled everything during code Red; they made us feel so safe and kept us informed at all times. Their calm, reassuring presence made all the difference. I can’t recommend this place enough! I stayed here 12 night with my 2 daughters. I will definetly come back.

I am a bird watcher so I loved the garden setting. I also walked the road leading up to the mountain. The pool was big enough to swim in, not just dangle the legs over the edge. Breakfast offered choice and included fresh juice, fruit and coffee as well as the main. Local buses plus direct buses to Guadalajara pass in front of the hotel so it is easy to get around the area very cheaply.

AJIJIC HAS A TOWN PLAZA WHERE YOU CAN FIND LOTS OF VENDORS AND ARTISTS, AS WELL AS COFFEE AND FOOD. RADIATING OUT FROM THE ARTISTIC CENTER ARE MANY SHOPS, RESTAURANTS AND BAKERIES MIXED IN WITH AN AMAZING FREE SHOWING OF ARTWORK BY MANY IMPRESSIVE ARTISTS. GOING TO THE LAKE FROM THE PLAZA YOU WILL COME TO THE DOCKS ON LAKE CHAPALA, THE LARGEST FRESH WATER LAKE IN MEXICO. THERE IS A CONCESSION RENTING OUT WATER TOYS AND OFFERING LAKE TOURS. YOU CAN TAKE A LONG OR SHORT WALK ALONG THE SIDEWALKED MALECON. AFTER PASSING THE VENDORS THERE ARE LOVELY VIEWS OF BIRDS, MOUNTAINS AND THE LAKE. THERE ARE AREAS WHERE YOU CAN PICNIC AND PLAY AREAS FOR KIDS. HIKING AND CAMPING AREAS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE.

Chapala is a nice and very relaxed town right at the lake with the same name! It has a supermarket, but also a nice local market with fresh fruit and vegetables. Considering that the area is very popular with tourists it isn't overly touristy. The local population is still very present in every day life. Prices are still reasonable! And people are still nice and friendly!

Jocotepec is a small traditional Mexican town on the shores...

Jocotepec is a small traditional Mexican town on the shores of Lake Chapala. There are some stores along the main highway. The central square in the town is classically Mexican, with some charm. The neighborhoods that comprise the town are old and rundown, and the housing we saw for residents reminds one that not all of us have beautiful homes, backyards and pools. You can learn a lot about how people live and have a better appreciation for your lot in life.

We stayed here because a friend was getting married at La Quinta San Carlos. San Pedro Tesistan is a bit sleepy, but a nice little town to walk around. Has a cute church and park in the center. We ate a couple breakfasts at El Rinconcito de Aliah. It's a nice little spot to grab a bite, we enjoyed the chilaquiles. Would definitely recommend it. A few other shops around town to satisfy your needs. Whole town is easily walkable. Tranquil spot on the Lago de Chapala.

Our vacation was spent entirely with a family who lives in Ocotlan. We felt safe and enjoyed everything except the mosquitoes.. that is something to prepare for because of that river, prepare for that. Some family members left with a lot of bites on our legs and arms. Food was great and the plaza area was nice with a lot of different food to enjoy.

A really interesting town with physical challenges!

A really interesting town with physical challenges! The pluses: many interesting places to visit; wide choice of restaurants; art museums, cultural centers and expat driven events. Variety of accommodation and many different services available. Excellent bus service. The minuses: the cobblestone streets, uneven sidewalks and hills make for exhausting walks which is compounded by 5000 feet elevation. The main street is clogged with traffic.

Beautiful quaint town, that has so much to offer. some beautiful properties, views, and long walks by the lake. Beautiful people who are eager to serve you. Best breakfast at the hotel Plaza Chapala, prepared by Veronica a wonderful cook. Driving to Ajijic, and Jocotepec is worth the trip.

The people are so friendly. there is so much to do, even for visitors from other countries, hiking, biking, kayaking, theatre, dance lessons, concerts, art shows, etc, etc. There are lots of places to eat and the plaza is always full of life.

We liked Chapala.

We liked Chapala. In our opinion, it had a better feel than Ajijic, which we stayed in before and visited again this trip. There was a central market right across the road from our lodging and it was a convenient source of fresh fruit and veggies. There was also good fresh bread, cheese and a variety of meat. There were some good restaurants in town but the open air chicken & chips place (50m to the left after exiting the hotel) made us sick, so we couldn't recommend it.
