I booked this place last minute, and I had a great experience. The room was large with an AC, and the delicious breakfast made me full until late afternoon. Staff was friendly and the manager organised all my excursions. Everything went smoothly and I felt safe, which is important for a solo traveller. Plus they have a generator, so I could enjoy the AC during the power cut.

What an absolute gorgeous gem of a hotel in Stone Town. Truly authentic building and decor and incredible bedrooms. I stayed in the ‘Kate’ room which was utterly delightful. Beautiful private terrace overlooking the town, enormous bedroom (beautifully decorated) and an open-air bathtub adjoining. Super private. Gorgeous to wake up in the morning and open the doors and feel the breeze filter through. Beautiful bed linen and towels (woven locally) and handmade soaps. If you are into aesthetics, then this is the place for you. I can’t say enough to rate the hotel. All the staff were absolutely delightful and super attentive (as a single female traveller it was very much appreciated). The Manager was extremely kind and friendly. Also organised a fantastic private tour of the town for me which was brilliant. The rooftop restaurant is to die for. The best, authentic and freshest of food I have ever eaten.The taster plate experience with sunset and cocktails was dreamy. Amazing views and ambiance. Didn’t want it to end! The Secret Garden restaurant is also absolutely worth a visit. I attended on a Friday evening when there was live music being performed. Truly magical. Again, the food was just amazing and the staff all super kind.

All was great and very welcoming! We arrived late at night after a flight, The hotel is really close to the airport which is really really convenient to who need to stay the night between flights. we stayed with 2 little girls and there is a small playground which was great for the girls to take out some energy after the flight.

Excellent personally curated food (we're vegetarians) and drinks. Staff are exceptionally warm and attentive. All events are so personally done and yet give you a slice of what Zanzibari and Tanganyika culture is. Rooms are amazing, especially the ocean view villas - which had (for us) 3 different private beach access routes, plenty sunbathing spaces, and a private pool. An in-resort jungle running / walking path, outdoor gym, jetty for sundowners and snorkelling from, a very intimate spa and prepared excursions. Managers, especially Julia (/Yulia sp.), supported by Nivot, Alexandra, Mudi, were excellent.

An absolutely wonderful hotel, with the best of services and facilities. The location is perfect, in the heart of Stone Town. Beautiful place with a fantastic vibe and with comfortable and luxurious rooms. The rooftop is amazing, with a 360 degree view of Stone Town and sea view and best of all, the sunset view. Even the guided tours make a stop at the rooftop of Maru Maru. Additionally excellent pool and breakfast buffet! I would, no doubt, stay at the Maru Maru again, if ever in Stone Town again.

If you want to live in the center of historical Stone Town where locals live, in authentic historical building and very place specific interior you do choose this hotel. We feel ourself like visiting friends - very pleasant and warm feelings. The restaurant in the hotel was one of the best in the city. Staff is very kind. Thank you for hospitality.

the staff is very friendly and accommodating. one employee at the resort overcharged me but before we checked out I was refunded a whole 931 American dollars and I had no idea I was overcharges. this was a beautiful surprise and I was so amazed at this people's honesty.i will definitely be back again soon

Zanzibar old town is not only nice itself but is also a starting point for other trips. Worth visiting in town: - Slavery memorial museum - st. Joseph Catholic Cathedral - local market - food market in Forodhani at night - small streets with souvenirs shops - Portuguese Arch Trips outside: - spice plantations - prison island - snorkeling - mangrove forests Old fort and museum was under renovation so I didnt visit. Don’t stay only in all inclusive hotel. Allow yourself to wonder and even get lost in the town.

The place very unique like you are in a movie, refreshing to see how they lived in the 1800 and 1900, the environment is clean, the only thing I didn't like is that the hotel on the beach, released all the dirty water into the sea
