Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BelgiumCommunication is difficult , even with the British owner; once paid there is no communication anymore ; staff only speaks Portuguese The venue needs some repair : no lights on the terrace of our bungalow for example and too dark inside the bathroom; pool is green But it has a lot of potential
Location : paradise ; nice breakfast; nice bungalows The beach is magic and the location is the best one can have ; difficult because of the bumpy road but that makes it more attractive

Overall, Butterfly has an excellent location, attentive staff and a spectacular breakfast. The beach in front is very quiet and very beautiful

United KingdomBreakfast delicious, so many interesting fruits and juices, and omelettes on demand. My favourite spot was the bar/loungers next to the beach...just so relaxing, then a splash about in the sea.... All the staff were so helpful and smiley, but also incredible invisible fairies who made my room immaculate when I went for breakfast...really slick!

South AfricaThe road to paradise is beset by potholes and mud...I guess if you want to get to Paradise you have to pay the price. 😄... The roads are very bad and taxi prices are very very expensive...a trip of 6km costs $R 90😵 Bring lots of insect repellant...there are squadrons of mosquitos
The pousada is magnificent..a magical setting with a beautiful beach and well kep swimming pool.. staff are well trained and friendly...strong consistent wifi..hot showers with good water pressure...excellent food and more than acceptable breakfast..

United KingdomWe loved everything about it
Butterfly House was the most magical place to stay in... a peaceful haven of beautiful nature located in the jungle with an ocean view and wonderful rustic rooms to stay in... all with their own individual quirky features. The gardens were immaculately kept with mature tropical plants and flowers to wander in. The wildlife of tropical birds and the marmosets who visit daily add to the all round jungle experience and the care and attention provided by the great team at Butterfly leaves you wanting for nothing... food and drink was excellent and we found it hard to leave. The only downside was that we didn't stay long enough and wished we had more days to enjoy... we are already looking forward to returning soon.

United Kingdomhaving to leave 😃
I had the privilege of staying at Butterfly house for a week recently and it was one of the most memorable travel experiences I've ever had. The attention to detail is incredible, every day I would find another nuance or nook and cranny to appreciate, subtlety placed to keep your stay more comfortable. Chloe, the British owner is very fluent and knowledgeable of the area having been there for 12 years. She went out of her way to help us with the journey. It is a very long journey to get there from the UK; ferrys, speedboats, Jeep's, but one well worth taking as it takes you deep into the heart of Bahia culture and with every leg the stresses and strains of modern life dissipate. Staff at the resort are very kind and conscientious and nothing was too much trouble. The food was wonderful especially as a vegetarian I had been struggling elsewhere in Brazil. The food was also really delicious. The polenta cake drizzled in jungle honey at the breakfast buffet was worth travelling 8000 miles for! As was the option of a açai sorbet from the local açai farm (well worth a trip to visit) or tropical fruit salad every morning. Lobsters and oysters were there to be ordered fresh from the local fishermen. The tropical gardens are like something you'd pay money to go and view. But the fact it's all growing naturally blew my mind. The gardener is like a Zen Buddhist raking the sand every day, tending to the orchids or birds of paradise and the living roofs of the rooms. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious, tastefully decorated with very comfortable beds, fridges and air-conditioning. There is a very nice pool which is a perfect spot for a chill for the afternoon but just a few steps away and you're on the deck by the beach which tended to be the favourite of our group. The only difficulty is deciding whether to lie in a hammock, one of the raised beds or down on the beach on a sunbed with a beer form the bar there.

United KingdomIt was quite simply perfect and at £60 a night you simply won't beat this anywhere in the world.
Beautiful bungalows nestled within uninterrupted mata Atlantic forest, with a cosy restaurant behind which sits the post pristine uninterrupted paradise of wild bahian beach, expansive white sand and warm Atlantic waters. Either sit in the hammock steps from the sea or hang out by the small pool set within majestic gardens. Owner Lewis is an absolute gentleman and the entire staff make you feel absolutely welcome. The breakfast is a gorgeous selection of ever changing fresh fruit juices, with Brazilian staples such as tapioca and a huge selection of fruits, hams and cheeses and crunchy baguette, cakes and eggs. Lunch and dinner cater for international and Brazilian tastes, with a selection of fish as well as Brazilian specialities such as rice and beans with beef, locally caught ocean and lake fish as well as portions of whitebait and fried calamari. International beers as well as Brazilian and a selection of gins and cocktails.

United KingdomIt's a long drive up a bumpy dirt peninsula road, but that is not Butterfly's fault, and anyway it's what helps to keep the area pristine.
Butterfly House has a fantastic location on the Marau Peninsula, immediately adjacent to a beautiful beach, deserted when we were there. We watched Humpback whales just offshore during their annual migration in September. The accommodation comprises individual bungalows spread through the lovely gardens. The staff are lovely, but as in most of Brazil, English is not spoken. Altogether a peaceful and beautiful place to stay. Did I mention the whales?

United KingdomIt’s just not possible to describe Butterfly House without using the word ‘magic’. Chloe and Lewis have created Eden on a white sand Bahian peninsula, where, amongst orchids, soaring banana plants, and dancing butterflies, we found a magical home from home. There’s nothing at Butterfly House that can’t be catered for. The team aren’t just friendly, warm and welcoming… stay for long enough and they will feel like family. Huge thanks, especially, to Chloe, Lewis, Leilane, Elias, Netto, Mateo, and Guiu; although it seems unfair to single anyone out as absolutely everyone took exceptional care of us. Thank you for making our birthday dreams come true. It was a once in a lifetime experience I’ll treasure forever. xxx
