Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

PakistanThe rooms could have had better sound proofing!!
A lovely little hotel with the individual character of a family-run operation! Very efficient and professional in the detail, with all modern facilities one expects from a top hotel, without any of the associated negatives! A fairly comprehensive breakfast where the owner took personal interest in your coffee, and brought fresh mint leaves from the garden to make your scrambled egg look prettier!! What more can you ask for?! The owner speaks very good English she had picked up while living in Oxford, and is extremely helpful and cooperative!! Recommend without any hesitation!!

United States of AmericaThis was our second time staying here and we plan to continue returning! The couple that owns the guesthouse goes above and beyond, they are so sweet and hospitality is 10/10. Great decor, cleanliness, spaciousness, etc. Thank you!

United States of AmericaIt's hard to capture the positive experience in words: but the hotel and the rooms are as clean and quaint as well as they are the quintessential Swiss Chalet type of experience one hopes to obtain on such a trip. The crisp and clean Swiss air combined with the remarkable music of the Swiss Brown cattle bells was a most charming way to greet the morning. It certainly didn't hurt that we had a few gentle thunderstorms to provide a respite from the day as white noise to lull us to sleep. And the breakfast - oh my goodness how delightfully Swiss and wonderfully tasty. The host/owner most visible to us, Abongile, was very communicative before and during the stay, and she was the perfect attendant at breakfast and during our checkout process. I can't recommend this place and the Appenzell region in general enough!

Outstanding family run B&B that was charming, clean, and situated in the heart of the Appenzell region with access to unbelievable scenery and hiking. Wonderful hospitality from Abongile who provided all the local knowledge and recommendations. She went above and beyond to help us with a parking ticket as well. Amazing local organic breakfast was provided every morning, with the scrambled eggs in particular a highlight. WiFi was fast!

United States of AmericaThe location was a little difficult to find, but that was part of the charm. I would suggest looking on "Google Maps" in advance to "see" where you are going.
This was a quintessential Swiss experience. The couple who run the property were warm and welcoming. The breakfast was superb! Enjoyed our stay very much.

United States of AmericaIt can be a little hard to find without a GPS but road signs are visible once in Gais.
The guesthouse was beautifully constructed and looked like recently renovated. The original house is over 200 years old but interior looks new. Owners were very helpful and the room a wooden paradise. Breakfast extensive and hot food included. Centrally located for Appenzell day trips.

FranceA shared breakfast isn’t something I feel comfortable with right now. I thought it would be served to us. Or at least individual servings which we can help ourselves to. I had my own hand sanitizer on our table which we used after handling common utensils before eating ourselves.
The room was very clean. The staff extremely accommodating. We had a lovely view over the Swiss countryside which was stunning as it was last time we stayed.

RomaniaWe stayed on the first floor and there was some noise from the upper one. Also, the rooms at the first floor has very low ceiling and might be a thing to consider if you are over 185cm.
Amazing surroundings, sparkling clean. We had a good breakfast and the hosts are awesome persons. Would definitely come back if we get in the area again.

SwitzerlandMy stay at Bären - Das Gästehaus was overall pleasant, but a significant disappointment overshadowed it. I specifically chose this hotel for its suite with a bathtub, willing to pay extra for this luxury. However, upon arrival, I discovered our suite lacked a bathtub, a detail not made clear during booking despite the promotional photos suggesting otherwise. This lack of transparency felt misleading and significantly impacted my satisfaction, rendering the positive aspects of our stay negligible. Despite the pleasantness of the hotel, I felt deceived, leading me to rate my experience as 1 out of 10. This experience highlighted the importance of accurate representation, as I would have preferred to choose a different hotel that met my expectations at the same price point.
