How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

It happened to be noisy renovation and one lift not working, so somewhat uncomfortable.
Good location, calm but close to city center. Spacious room, comfy bed, nice shared balcony :) Ok breakfast, very good coffee.

One lift was out of order, so the other was always in use. Maybe check ahead if you're a wheelchair user or have lots of heavy luggage?
Very clean, quiet. Good sized locker outside the room. Tasty, reasonably priced food. Convenient location. Friendly, helpful staff. Would definitely stay there again.

Only stayed here one night, we arrived very late (past midnight). The location and breakfast were top!! Good location, easily accessible by foot or public transport, the lake is less than 5 minutes from the hostel. Staff was very kind and helpful, vast breakfast options, the facility was clean.

The lockers were outside of the room which is so not convenient, also you can only use your own floor's toilet but there is only one toilet, so when someone is using for a long time, I could not use it, and the staff was not very nice, you even have to pay for luggage storage, which is normally a free service provided by the hostel
The common area is spacious, and the cafeteria and breakfast is unexpectedly good

The bathroom could’ve been a bit cleaner but it was still good.
Good location and nice bunk room with lots of space and that was nice and clean, good facilities too!

Checking in was too slow. I told them but they do not seem to want to listen. It should not take more than 4 minutes when it takes more than 10. With so many guests, this can become an issue, especially with people traveling for hours to reach the destination. I hope they will manage to work it out. Otherwise very satisfied.

Laundry is accessible only when paid in cash (due to 20CHF deposit policy). This is rather outdated. It's 2024, electronic return of deposit is possible at payment terminals these days. Requesting the hostel to update their policy and possibly payment terminals too.
Clean and tidy hostel with a lot of space and helpful staff.

No vegan options for breakfast except for jam. There is one electric outlet on the six bed bedroom. You cannot charge your phone outside of the bedroom. If you sleep on the top bed there is no place to put your phone.
The location is very good, it was clean.

There's guests of all ages including families and groups of youth that I assume were school classes. Some of these groups can be very noisy and create long lines at breakfast because they all eat at the same time. I stayed two weeks and was only annoyed about 5/13 nights though.
Nice breakfast included, not too fancy but definitely a bonus in a city as expensive as Geneva. The lockers are very big and secure.

Peeling plaster on the ceiling of the bathroom. Broken floor tiles in the bathroom. The pillows and bed were not comfortable

The room was half empty, despite that in registration form I mentioned that I am senior. At the reception they didn't gave me the shets, so I made a second, unnecessary, visit there. No shower gel available.
Good option for one night. Breakfast was provided early

A bit pricey (it’s Genova 🙃), older utilities, lift wasn’t working most of the time
Great location, quick check in, each person gets a locker which is connected to a card (you don’t need your own lock), bathroom older, but clean and spacious, room for 6 people (so not overcrowded), nice breakfast

The toilets and the shower.
I liked the breakfast, the fact that there’s an elevator, the rooms were clean! Not far from airport it took me less than 30 mins to be at the hostel! And i liked the idea of offering us the transportation cards.
