Refresh the drinks in the vending machine. I got the coke and it was expired.

Near to train station (Ski bus is near). Rooms are quiet. Staff is super friendly. Breakfast options were good. Fresh breads, eggs etc. Bonus: Really nice pizza place near by (Pizza and Co.).

    nothing, it was perfect

I loved the ambiance, the original decor and facilities, but most of all the fantastic, helpful and caring staff that made sure all our needs were met despite the late arrival, late meal times etc.

    Puts the "booo" in "boutique"

The wintersports around Ruhpolding - as in many of the northern Alpine regions - have been adversely affected by climate change, so many hotels are being forced to adapt to an evolving market. The Townhouse (formerly Alpenhotel Wittelsbach) is one such example, apparently being transformed into a "boutique" hotel. So far they have got as far as changing the name, and lavishly redecorating the breakfast area with several impractically low tables which are impossible to eat from. None of the upper floors or rooms appear to have been done yet, other than an odd-shaped mirror and lack of wardrobe in ours. Our room seemed slightly careworn. There were no bungs to stop the door handles bashing into the walls. They had used the wrong type of grout between the shower floor tiles, so the water is steadily blasting it away making the tile edges uncomfortably sharp on feet. The "floating" toilet was sagging away from the wall (all "floating" toilets do this). The towel rail was loose, the towels themselves not replaced when left on the floor. We found the breakfasts to be average, but cleanliness was an issue. Our visit was marred by a number of guests children having hacking coughs, running loose, picking up plates and cuttlery. More than once I saw the waiting staff pick up the toddler and return them to their unconcerned parents - but I did not see the waiting staff wash their hands. The hotel also has a bizarre entry method, where one must use their own mobile to log into an app and navigate to a specific page and move a little slider on the screen in order to unlock doors. Very clever - but totally unnecessary? All it did was make us worried that if our phone battery died, we would be locked out. There was an impression that many patrons question this, but one member of staff was insistent about us using the app to the point of rudeness. "I don't see what is the problem!?" If this is the future, I'll pass.

The Townhouse is an easy walk from the railway station. The radiators worked well. A ticket for local travel was provided. That concludes the positives.
