Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe walls between rooms are very thin, and conversations next door can be easily heard. Also, there is a 20L limit on hot water, which means showers must be short and efficient.
The location was excellent - it was only a 10-mins walk to subway station. The room was clean and comfortable with attached bathroom. The facilities in common area are very clean, and water readily available. I arrived past midnight, and instructions to enter was quite clear.

PortugalNothing to point out considering the price we paid and location
For the price we paid, we couldn’t have asked for more. The location is very central (near Sol), with most of the main attractions within walking distance. We initially thought breakfast wasn’t included, but there were snacks available for guests, such as orange juice, croissants, and coffee. Although we were a bit worried about noise, since the place isn’t very big and we noticed earplugs in the bedroom when we arrived, we didn’t hear anything and slept very well. The bedroom itself was quite small, but honestly it was perfectly fine for a weekend stay. Overall, it was a great option for a short stay and we would definitely consider coming back.

HungaryThe bathroom was not really separated from the bedroom. It was pretty cold and we couldn´t heat the place.
We liked the location, as it was very close to most places we wanted to go to. We also liked the breakfast, coffee and tea facilities. The staff was very friendly.

United KingdomAlthough advertised as a small double with a private bathroom, we found the toilet on the small side and a bit awkward to access with the door opening inwards. However, with the price we paid we can't complain.
The room was good value for money, clean, and perfect for a short break. It was a little on the small side, but more than adequate for the price paid. The location was perfect, in a great area with easy access by foot to many attractions within central Madrid. The staff very friendly. Nice to have access to a water machine and coffee machine in the reception area. The bed was very comfortable and we slept really well. We will definitely return if we look to spend a night or two in Madrid in the future.

SpainThe walls between rooms are really thin. We could clearly hear the people next door, even small things like plugging something into the outlet and snoring. The main door to the hostel is also a bit tricky to unlock at first. The pillows were a little too soft for us.

BrazilThe acoustic insulation between bedrooms is extremelly poor. There was a familly with a small child next door and it was impossible to sleep. The child started crying everyday from 10pm to midnight at least. Luckly they provided us with ear plugs. Otherwise it would be hell. The shower stall is extremelly dangerous, very high from the floor and slippery. I fell when getting out in the first day and hurt my leg. Totally not recommended for older people. The shower drain doesn't drain properly the water and the bath should be very fast to avoid flooding the entire bathroom.
The room is good sizing and they have in common area a fridge, microwave and coffee machine, water fountain and snacks that we could take (orange juice, yogurt, bread, butter) which we liked for a quick breakfast. We were well received with explanation on how to get in and out of the building and about the snacks and dishes/cuttlery usage.

Germany- Common area close to reception could have been a bit more spacious, but it was OK - Occasional sounds from the bathroom when people flushed toilets in other rooms, but the noise was not super disruptive when you closed the bathroom door - Room was a bit small at 10 sqm but not a problem if you are looking for a place to rest and will be outside mostly
- Super central location, which is within walking distance to main Madrid sights and museums (10-15 min walk to Thyssen-Bornemisza museum and Prado); I was able to walk around easily between different neighborhoods (Lavapies) - Super friendly and helpful staff and receptionist - Fridge in common area, where you can store your groceries - Elevator in the building - Close to many restaurants and bars and pedestrian area - Could store luggage at hostal after checkout and explore the city - Price matched the two star ratings - Accommodated an earlier checkin - Comfortable bed and ear plugs provided, since the room was around the corner from the common area - Air conditioning - Availability of extra blankets in the closet - Coffee machine makes good strong coffee
