We could hear very clearly the plumbing from the bathroom next to our bedroom.

Historic building, good breakfast selection well presented.

The layout in the shower room was strange and awkward with beams. The bed was not that comfortable and had strange protruding wings at the tail end which my wife banged into several times with her leg/hip.The hotel looked a little tired and there were very few staff about

The breakfast room was nice. The bedroom was OK. The staff did their best and were pleasant. Cleanliness was fine. The pool was a nice facility to have access to.

Unfortunately the pool and sauna were out of action on the day of our arrival and we were also told the bar snack menu wasn’t available, although we were offered something to accommodate us.

Staff were very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. The hotel is lovely and clean. The breakfast, lunch and evening meal was tasty and filling. Had an amazing hot stone massage.

Characterful and cosy stay to explore the Downs

The heating in our room (206) was on full blast the first night with no visible way of turning it down. Thought it must have been centrally controlled and so needed to open all the windows and didn't get much sleep. However, when we returned the following afternoon, we asked the chap at the desk and he came and kindly turned the heating off by removing the radiator covers, meaning we had a much better night's sleep. There was a slightly ghostly experience too! The bar is small and a bit limited (eg. 3 or 4 largers but no ale) and the breakfast was okay (continental and cooked), slightly limited choice (great if you like eggs lots of these to choose from) just not the best ingredients. Evening menu wasn't really to our taste either so can't really comment on that as we ate elsewhere.

The building (an old rectory) is nestled in a residential area in the quiet village of Angmering. The free parking in front of the hotel was great and we found it a good spot to explore the Downs and the coastline from. There are also a couple of pubs, shop, and cafe about 3mins walk away. The building is interesting and very old (16thC) but the rooms feel fresh with perfectly extravagant items of furniture to add to the character. The bed was really comfy, we also enjoyed the bath, and there was a good amount of storage. The pool and sauna were a treat and i'm sure the garden would be lovely to sit in when the weather is nice. Staff were polite and accommodating but clearly very busy covering everything from check-ins, to the bar, and the restaurant dining room all at once.
