Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWhen we arrived we could hear loud, booming music coming from the garden. We were told it would finish at 9pm. Over an hour later it was still booming out and made it unpleasant even in our room on the top floor. It finally finished after 10.30pm. Also no breakfast was available.
Recently refurbished and very clean and modern and well located in the centre of Stokesley.

United KingdomOnly cooked breakfast, tea and coffee on offer, so very poor choice for many people. Did not eat in restaurant as planned, due to extreme noise and behaviour in bar. No good for anyone not so fit as stairs, steps and long passages. Walk in shower not available and no hooks or seat in bathroom. Designed to look good but not use!
Staff friendly, room clean.

United KingdomIt was a huge cold building, our room was very cold on arrival, there was an extra heater provided which we used and it did soon warm up
We got a very warm welcome from the manager, he explained there was refurbishment going on, the hotel was lovely and clean

United KingdomThe general areas are worn ( there is a sign saying under light refurbishment) and plaster peeling from part of the wall , so this is needed. There is no room secondary security lock , which would be appreciated . No wardrobe or hanging space except for on the back of the bathroom door. The breakfast is a very basic continental - we ate out at one of the other places in town . Note there is a staircase to the rooms , so people with mobility issues may wish to consider this .
Located in the centre of town, clean linen and towels . Room quiet for a central hotel. Bathroom had just been refurbed and was nice enough. Plenty of hot water , with complimentary guest amenities. Room seems to have been recently spruced as fresh paint and new carpeting . Whilst basic it was ok price wise .

United KingdomIt's not a dislike as such but the hotel was going through some renovations so there were parts of our room that they hadn't gotten to yet which weren't a big deal but was good to keep in mind while we stayed.
The bed was comfortable and clean. Had everything we needed. Was a standard room in a quiet little village/town had lots of options to eat and drink.

United KingdomWe had 2 double rooms, rooms 10 and 12. In room 10, it took 15 minutes of running the hot water tap before any warm water came through. In room 12, there was no hot water at all! Nothing came out of the hot water tap so only had cold water! Very disappointing and not acceptable for a room of this price! In room 10, there was no long mirror and no hairdryer which we thought poor. Sash windows and no double glazing on the windows made it quite noisy and fairly cold. Also, there was only Venetian blinds on the windows so let lots of light through in the morning.
Nice staff, pleasant decor, adequate breakfast, rooms clean.

United KingdomWe had a couple of problems with our room, one of which the owners sorted while we were there, the other unfortunately had to wait until after we had left. The Hotel was full and the owners were very quick to deal with our problem while we were out.
The room was newly decorated and very pleasant. The owners were very friendly and are obviously working hard to run this lovely hotel, which has not been easy for them since they bought it in 2019. We enjoyed our stay and loved Stokesley,
