Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe other guests. Lack of ambience and atmosphere. The building is such a beautiful gothic structure but internally it lacked character and atmosphere.
History. Location. Architecture. Staff. Damon the concierge was particularly enthusiastic, helpful and knowledgeable.

United KingdomOur toilet got blocked, spent hours trying to unblock and clear it, eventually reported it but as was late maintenance had to come next day to deal with it, the sewage even started to come up into the bath, was a very unpleasant experience and the the day after the water from the shower started to leak into the downstairs - we were very quickly reallocated rooms that were adjoining doubles rather than the family rooms and have to say it was so much better and the management and staff definitely made it up to us - such a wonderful team really made us feel so very special.
All staff were exceptionally professional and so very helpful even when we faced difficulties it was dealt with swiftly and with such courtesy - thank you so much to the entire team!

United Kingdomshower badly dripped all night long (this was clearly known about before we arrived as a flannel had been placed in the bath under the drip, as it was so loud. hairs in sink and bath. also loads of small fruit type flies in room (we didn't open window, so don't know where they came from) Biggest moan was the reaction I received from bar staff when I asked if I could get a tea at approx 10pm at night...... was met with not the best response and barman reacted as if i'd asked for something outrageous. I did get the tea, but was made to feel as though he had done me a favour. Nice, but not worth the money, as we also stayed at Welcombe, Billesley and Crowne Plaza (we did 'best spa hotels' in Stratford) and thought both Billesley and Welcombe were better value for money
reception staff nice, as were dining room waiters. Spa lovely. breakfast lovely

United KingdomThe bedroom perhaps could do with a bit of updating but it was very comfortable and clean with great amenities (tea coffee milk biscuits bottled water etc). Possibly a bit short staffed for our late arrival And evening meal but that is probably a common problem at the moment due to Covid related issues and the food and service was good
We loved the grounds! Such pretty countryside perfect for dog walking and deer roaming. Lovely room for breakfast onto the garden. Great swimming pool. Delicious breakfast. Really friendly staff.

Friendly staff. Good selection of delicious food. Beautiful well-kept grounds. Very dog friendly. One of the rare occasions when the rooms and hotel plus grounds turn out to be even nicer than the photos!

United KingdomThe stay wasn’t as good as usual. Breakfast on the second morning opened with the two of us being asked for our room “numbers”. As two gay men we have stayed at this property at least six times and this felt clumsy, awkward and a bit old-fashioned for 2024. A couple of mistakes at breakfast - both brought tea instead of one tea and coffee and then second pot of coffee request was forgotten. Not big things in the overall scheme of things but for over £200 per night, attention to detail and knowing your repeat customers is important if you’re going to position yourself in that segment of the market.
Beautiful location and heritage building. Swimming pool, comfortable lounge and supper.

United KingdomOur room was in annex (due to dog) and the furnishings were a little tired. The service was pretty poor at the restaurant. Staff need more training as every table was showing frustration (for example that main courses arrived before wine did!
A beautiful hotel, set in lovely countryside. Dog friendly with good facilities for dogs. Very high quality food - congratulations to the chef.

United KingdomThe food was lacklustre, definitely poor value for the type of venue. Especially considering the high quality offerings of nearby pubs and restaurants. Also, it was a shame that they use fake plants/flowers inside considering how beautiful the grounds are. In some ways, it just didn’t feel like a well oiled machine. The staff were friendly, but at times slow or forgetful. They advertise as a dog-friendly hotel, but don’t have dog cleaning facilities. The maps of the walks are outdated.
The exterior of the hotel is gorgeous as are the grounds. The interior is also quite nice. Some things are tired, but others are really impressive (like the moulding in the dining room). Most of the staff was attentive and friendly.

United KingdomThe restaurant food on Sunday and Monday breakfast was appalling and let the whole stay down. We had to go out for dinner on the second night as the food was so bad. No buffet at breakfast on the Monday (as too much effort). The breakfast on Tuesday was much improved and the staff far better and actually caring.

United KingdomRoom was (classic category) but amongst the furniture contained some shabby (one or two slightly battered) pieces. Carpeting was also a little shabby. Plain decor (exception being a well dressed, huge and comfortable bed). Overall not to be expected when paying at time of writing £175 a night.
Friendly staff. Nice breakfast but not above average. Spa quiet and relaxing. Large comfortable bed. Beautiful grounds and dining room.

United KingdomThe food was awful - we had dinner and breakfast - and they were inedible. What's worse is that dinner was £130 (£90 food + £40 wine). The wine was great, but the food was rubbery, bland and over sugared. It takes a special amount of skill to make the food so badly. We just couldnt eat it, and it ruined our stay. I thought breakfast would be hard to ruin, but i was wrong. The bacon and sausage looked like they'd been microwaved. No colour or flavour - again inedible. We paid £270 to stay the night, and this was not the level that you'd expect for the price paid. We also called up reception to ask for an extra blanket, which never came.
The setting is stunning and the architecture is beautiful. Staff were overall friendly. The room was a decent size and the bed was very comfortable. Didn't get a chance to go to the pool area, but it looked ok.
