Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe didn't see any ghosts! However the whole ambiance of this fine establishment pretty well made up for that.
This very old wonderful Inn is at the heart of Rye. All of the staff, reception, porters, waiting/bar staff, cleaners were so polite and professional. Very easy to get lost in the nest of corridors and stairways however the helpful staff are never far away to point you in the right direction. The Mermaid is ideally placed for exploring lovely Rye.

United KingdomIf more vegetarian options were available on dinner menu would have eaten there. Not a major issue as plenty of places to eat in rye.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.Room was lovely and although at the front of the Inn the curtains blocked out all outside light.Very peaceful as well.Bed very comfortable.

United KingdomNot so much didn't like but the breakfast buffet was quite plain, options were ok but would have been better if there was a more varied spread of options for the price of the breakfast.
Loved the atmosphere, it was like stepping back in time. Beautiful Inn, so much history and the style was beautiful. Fantastic pub with incredible fire place and lounges. Perfect cosy vibe for a trip away, very picturesque. The staff were very friendly and helpful too.

United KingdomThere was a slight problem with the parking very difficult to drive up a steep cobbled street as extremely tight turn into the hotel. My friend had to move her car twice which was not a Range Rover size & the Receptionist at the time of arrival was not clear in her instructions. The porter or car park staff man at the time was also not very helpful. We actually felt we shouldn't park in the hotel car park as its very tight & has to be arranged in a very strict manner! We were also told a coach party were arriving later (how a coach would get up there who knows)? So we were to consider this?!! This started our trip away in not a good way, so the parking needs to be mentioned & people made aware when booking.
Beautiful hotel with extremely friendly staff so clean & located well to see Rye. Breakfast was amazing and such a historic street where you felt like you'd gone back in time!! Would definitely stay again. The staff at Breakfast could not do enough for you & it comes through in their personality.

United KingdomNothing apart from the noisy seagulls early in the morning!
Staff on reception, restaurant and housekeeping very polite and friendly. It was challenging in the car park as space is limited however staff were able to assist by moving cars as appropriate. Breakfast was very good with plenty choice. Hotel takes the visitor back in time to another era with all the furnishings and fittings reflecting this.

United KingdomOnly thing I would have changed would be the parking as we were blocked in by another car and the owner forgot to give the keys to the receptionist. we had to wait until the staff could contact the owner.
The interior of the mermaid inn was beautiful so much to just look at. Staff were very friendly and down to earth

United KingdomThe single room seemed a little tired - shower and bathroom seem like they need an upgrade . They were clean . I was woken up by the sound of footsteps outside my room and not sure if the ghost stories had gone to my head or if the legends are indeed true but I slept badly ( not the hotels fault )
The hotel was a charming historic place to stay . The staff were all utterly charming and so welcoming and helpful . We ate our evening meal and breakfast and these were both excellent

AustraliaMy only criticism would be that there is not enough parking but we did find alternative parking.
I loved staying at the historic Mermaid Inn. It is an amazing place with lots of quirky features. The food in the restaurant was delicious. The location is great. If it hadn't been raining I would have enjoyed the outdoor areas too. I enjoyed my stay very much.
